Shadow Rock’s Bylaws and Articles of Incorporation were first written in 1973. The Shadow Rock Board passed minor amendments over the years, but Church leadership realized more than one year ago that the Bylaws needed a major overhaul to more accurately reflect the current organizational structure and ministry.
Approximately one year ago, the Board recruited a team of active members to revise the Bylaws and ensure that the Articles of Incorporation were consistent with the revised Bylaws. The team members followed the 1973 format and then submitted the revised documents to attorney Bob Brown, who specializes in church law. The team ended up being surprised by how much they didn’t know about church law! The team prepared several more drafts and carefully consulted with Mr. Brown. The Shadow Rock Board reviewed the documents at its last meeting.
The restated Bylaws and Articles of Incorporation are now being submitted to the Congregation for comments and questions in advance of three town halls and the June Congregational meeting, when the Congregation will be asked to approve the amendments. The team feels that the revised Bylaws and Articles of Incorporation conform to the current state of church law and provide the maximum amount of legal protection to the Congregation, the Board, and the Church as it moves intentionally into the future. The Board contemplates that a separate procedures manual will later address many policies and procedures not addressed in the Bylaws.
We ask that you review these documents in advance of the Town Hall Meetings and send any questions about the documents or the process to Heidi Zinn, Director of Operations, by email, requesting a reply by the end of business on Friday, May 15, 2026.
The Town Hall Meetings are scheduled as follows:
- Sunday, May 17, from 9-10 a.m. in person, in the Multipurpose Room

Tuesday, May 19th, from 6-7 p.m. via Zoom
- Sunday, May 24, from 11:30 a.m. - 12:30 p.m.
The Congregational Meeting will be held on Sunday, June 21, 2026.
