FL Air Force Range Prescribed Fire Program Reduces Wildfire Severity
SREF Extension Associate Holly Campbell recently wrote a new Wildfire Success Story for the southeastern arm of the National Cohesive Wildland Fire Management Program about a February 2018 wildfire that burned onto Avon Park Air Force Range property in Polk County, Florida from an adjacent private property. Fortunately, the tract of land had received prescribed fire treatment in the last 12 months, which contributed to reduced wildfire strength and limited the land burned by the wildfire to 75 acres. Although fire burned over 5,500 acres in all, the damage could have been far more severe if not for the prescribed fire program at Avon Park. read the success story .
