NCSU Extension Releases NC Forest Sector Economic Impact Report
Our colleagues at NCSU Extension forestry recently released a report on the economic contribution of the forest sector in North Carolina for 2016. The numbers are highly encouraging: "In 2016, the forest sector in North Carolina had a total economic contribution of $32.7 billion in industry output to the state’s economy, supporting about 150,000 full- and part-time jobs with a payroll of $7.8 billion." read the full report .

GA Exotic Pest Council to Hold 2018 Annual Meeting in Athens GA
The Georgia Exotic Pest Council will hold its 2018 annual conference October 23 in Athens, GA . The speakers will include Dr. Deah Lieurance, University of Florida Center for Aquatic and Invasive Plants, who will discuss invasive species screening, Chip Bates, Georgia Forestry Commission, who will give a presentation on emerging invasive plants and a cogongrass update, and Mike Ulysen, USDA Forest Service, who will present on ecosystem recovery following privet removal. Clemson to Host Pine Management Workshop Series in September
Clemson Forestry Extension will be hosting a series of workshops designed to educate participants on pine forest management. The program will focus on tree ID, soils, pine restoration, herbicides, harvesting and markets. Workshops will take place September 4 in Laurens, SC, September 11 and 18 in Columbia, SC, and September 25 in Moncks Corner, SC. learn more about the workshops .

Financial support from the Renewable Resources Extension Act (RREA) is critical to maintaining the ability of forestry Extension programs to support private landowners. SREF's Dr. Dave Coyle Joins Clemson Extension Forestry
The director of SREF's Forest Health and Invasive Species Outreach and Education Program (FHIS), Dr. Dave Coyle, has been a great asset to our office, and so we are both proud and a little bit sad to announce that Dr. Coyle has recently accepted a full time, tenure-track position in Forest Health and Invasive Species Extension with our partners at Clemson Extension Forestry. The job is 100% Extension and outreach focused, so Dr. Coyle will continue to work with landowners and forestry and natural resource professionals. He will also continue to work on FHIS, ensuring that it remains the innovative and effective program that it's always been under his leadership. We are excited to work with Dr. Coyle in his new position!

AFA Releases Web Map for AL Tree Farm Landscape Management Plan
Last week, the Alabama Forestry Association released a new Interactive web map to support the newly developed AL Tree Farm Landscape Management Plan for North Alabama (LMP). This web map uses the most site-specific geospatial data publicly available within the LMP to help forest resource professionals develop management goals and recommendations. learn more about the web map and the LMP .

REMINDER: Webinar to Showcase VA Urban Tree Volunteer Programs
Virginia has developed two successful urban tree citizen volunteer programs called Tree Stewards: the Virginia Extension Master Gardener (MG) Tree Steward program and Trees Virginia. In this webinar, John Freeborn, Virginia Extension Agent and Master Tree Farmer Coordinator, and Nora Palmatier, Board Member of Trees Virginia, will discuss how Extension Agents can work with volunteers to increase and maintain urban tree canopy using the successful Tree Steward programs as examples. read more about the webinar .
