Dr. Nancy Lowenstein Wins PLT Award for Environmental Education
Alabama Extension specialist Dr. Nancy Loewenstein received the 2018 Leadership in Education award presented by Project Learning Tree ®  (PLT). Loewenstein was one of five people awarded at the PLT’s 32nd International Coordinators’ Conference in Cody, Wyoming. read more .

Southern Forestry Extension Honored at ANREP's Biennial Conference
Southern forestry Extension professionals, including SREF's Dr. Dave Coyle, were honored for their excellent work at the Association of Natural Resources Extension Professionals Biennial Meeting, which took place in Biloxi, Mississippi April 29 - May 3. Dr. Martha Monroe and Outreach Associate Annie Oxarart of the University of Florida received awards for their educational module, Southeastern Forests and Climate Change . Dr. Coyle and his SREF colleagues picked up an award for the Southern Forest Health and Invasive Species Education and Outreach Program . read more

SGSF Annual Meeting Successful and Productive for SREF Staff
Southern Regional Forester Dr. Bill Hubbard and SREF Extension Associate Leslie Boby traveled to Richmond Virginia last week to present at the Southern Group of State Forester's 2018 Annual Meeting. In addition to listening to presentations from many regional partners, SREF staff learned about Learn. Plan. Act., a new SGSF initiative to reach unengaged landowners. read more

Senate Committee Passes Farm Bill with Forest Reforms
The Senate Agriculture Committee on Wednesday passed the 2018 farm bill, keeping intact forest management reforms offered by committee member Sen. Steve Daines. The bill passed by a 20-1 vote. read more .

Request for Applications Posted for RREA National Focus Funds
$300,000 is available in 2018 to 1862 Land-Grant Institutions and 1890 Land-Grant Institutions to provide funds for pilot projects that: (1) Address emerging forest and rangeland resource issues, (2) Have national or regional relevancy, or (3) Develop new and innovative projects that can be replicated at other institutions . AFRI Foundational and Applied Science Program Grant Available
Approximately $182 million is available in funding from NIFA's Agriculture and Food Research Initiative (AFRI), which is America’s flagship competitive grants program that provides funding for fundamental and applied research, education, and extension projects in the food and agricultural sciences. read more .
