Friends Of The Library

December 2024 Folio

135 blocks

Scripps Ranch Friends of the Library volunteers painted an impressive 135 blocks to bring the Youth Bookcases Wood Blocks project to life. This creative and colorful initiative would not have been possible without the generous support of the Women's Club of Scripps Ranch, whose donation made it all come together. The Scripps Miramar Ranch Library extends heartfelt thanks to everyone who contributed to this meaningful project, enriching the library experience for our young readers.

Book Recommendations

This month's recommendation comes from Ivy Weston, Centralized Collection Development Manager, Central Library. Ivy recommends: The Meadows by Stephanie Oakes. "After a climate-change disaster, the government is run by the Quorum, a secretive group that makes society’s rules. When young people reach their teens, they long for a letter inviting them to attend elite boarding schools – the Estuary, the Glades, the Meadows – that promise to train the “best and the brightest” for successful lives. Eleanor is thrilled when she receives an invitation to The Meadows.” To read Ivy’s full review, check out the November 3, 2024 issue of The San Diego Union-Tribune.

Happy Diwali!

Known as the Festival of Lights, Diwali is a cherished celebration originating in India and observed around the world. This multi-day festival holds different meanings for various communities—victory over ignorance, triumph over evil, or the joyful return of a deity from exile—but it universally unites people through well-wishes, joy, and light.

At Scripps Ranch Library, the festivities shone brightly! Attendees crafted colorful rangoli-inspired art, tasted delicious treats, and soaked in the family-friendly atmosphere.

A heartfelt thank-you to the amazing staff and volunteers who made this beautiful event possible. Your efforts truly lit up our community!
