I&RS Programming at the SRI&ETTC

Closing out the I&RS Year

April 25, 2023

There are many tasks to accomplish at the end of the school year that will ensure a smooth transition in the next school year with regard to Intervention and Referral Services (I&RS). I&RS guidance requires schools and districts to assess the team's procedures, share the results, and apply improvements in the upcoming school year. Professional learning needs for the I&RS team or professional staff should be identified and planned. School leaders and I&RS team members should use the results of their assessment to create recommendations for school-wide planning purposes. This session will focus on how to conduct the end-of-year assessment of I&RS procedures and plan for the upcoming school year. Connections to other building-based teams will be shared as well as how to best collaborate with other teams in order to increase positive outcomes from I&RS. In addition, Title funds will be identified that can be used to support I&RS functions. Scheduling options for I&RS meetings will be shared as well.

Structuring Your I&RS Team for a Successful Year

July 25, 2023

An I&RS team provides the school with an institutionalized mechanism and comprehensive strategy for enabling staff and families or caregivers to collaborate systematically over time. This collaboration requires careful planning and maintenance to become an integral and valued part of the educational system. A strong I&RS team is necessary for an I&RS system to work effectively in a school.

This session will define the characteristics of an effective team while providing administrators with recommendations for team composition. Team member roles and responsibilities will be clarified. In addition, this session will identify the support needed for I&RS team operations from the board of education, central office administrators, building administrators, and school staff. Participants will learn the best practices for collaborative decision-making. The relationship of I&RS teams to other building-based groups will be explored. Finally, participants will explore appropriate models for I&RS functions.

Build Equity through Choice Boards

June 14, 2023

All students should have access to complex problems and rigorous tasks that stimulate their motivation and engagement. Choice Boards are a way of organizing resources and learning tasks for students as well as offers students the opportunity to go beyond the curriculum. With choice board learning, students must actively participate to work towards self-directed learning. Teachers intentionally design choice boards to provide a more play-like approach that offers flexibility in terms of how students share their learning outcomes through multi-modalities. Participants will uncover the benefits, standards-based design, differentiation techniques, and explore activities that cater to every learning style, such as visual, auditory, read-write, and kinesthetic.

THE SEI ONLNE

A Free 15-Hour Course on Sheltered English Instruction

Developed by the SRI&ETTC Funded by the NJ Department of Education

Educating students who still are acquiring English proficiency can be complex in an age of high stakes evaluations and assessments as well as college and career-ready standards. English language learners (ELLs) are not monolithic in their educational background, cultural experiences, and ability to adapt to learning environments. However, through well-planned instruction, ELLs can attain challenging academic standards.
