TPO Teams with Schools to Support SRTS Grant Applications
The North Florida TPO is supporting five schools with technical assistance and data gathering to apply for grants from Florida’s Safe Routes to School (SRTS) program. Funded by the Florida Department of Transportation, the SRTS program finances projects to improve unsafe conditions within two miles of participating schools.
The SRTS program’s goal is to increase the number of students who walk or bike to school by annually funding projects that remove the barriers to walking and biking safely and comfortably. Barriers include a lack of infrastructure, unsafe infrastructure, and a lack of programs that promote walking and bicycling through education/encouragement programs aimed at students, parents and the community.
Come and meet our Bicycle/Pedestrian Planner Thalia Fusté to learn more about helmets and safety.
