There are two options for transportation to the Kimmel Center tour (tour starts 1:00 pm) on Wednesday June 18:
- Those wanting to take the SEPTA train to & from Suburban Station (walking to & from the Kimmel) will meet at the Swarthmore train station at 11:20.
- Those preferring to carpool will meet at the PAC Center for 11:30 departure.

Web Wandering

The next Web Wandering will be on Monday, June 23. We’ll watch “Her War”, a PBS documentary telling the stories of women caught up in World War II. Those stories include Rosie the Riveter and many others that will likely be new to us.
As usual, we’ll gather in the Centennial Room of the PAC Center about noon to catch up with each other over whatever lunch we brought, and we’ll start the video at 12:30.

Pendle Hill Outing on June 3rd by Beth Lawn
A special treat awaited the Walks and Trails gang June 3rd when we met up with Lloyd Guindon, Buildings and Grounds Director for Pendle Hill, for a tour of the trees and buildings. As we visited the Barn, Owen’s Garden, the library, and art studio, Lloyd answered questions and provided the history of Pendle Hill and information on current operations. A highlight was a visit to Mama Beech, properly revered by all at 300+ years of age and 105 feet tall, making it the largest in the state.
The gardeners in our group were especially intrigued by the organic garden which provides much of the fresh food for the kitchen. We learned that Pendle Hill's 24 acres of diverse ecosystems has been awarded a Level II Accreditation by the ArbNet Arboretum Accreditation Program and The Morton Arboretum, “for achieving industry standards of professional

practices deemed important for arboreta and botanic gardens.” Sadly shortly after this accolade the property was hit by a storm in early spring that toppled or damaged over 50 trees and 7 buildings. Pendle Hill is planting new trees and Lloyd expressed gratitude to the larger community which helped in the immediate cleanup and continues to support the storm recovery through donations.
Look for a fall trail walk at Pendle Hill to check up on the recovery progress and lunch at Main House which wasn’t open to us on this visit.

June's art exhibit presents a variety of paintings by a talented group of local Swarthmore artists. This is the 29th group exhibition and will be on display from June 4 through the end of the month at Swarthmore Borough Hall, located at 121 Park Avenue.
The exhibit is free and open to the public. Exhibit hours are M-Th 9am - 8pm, Fri 10am - 7pm, Sat 10am - 3pm, Sun 1 - 5pm.

| | Summer Senior Program begins this week! | | |
Are you a senior who would like more opportunities to stay connected with others while enjoying some fun activities?
The Park Avenue Community Center is offering its third annual Summer Senior Program, designed to keep seniors active and engaged with a weekly opportunity to take part in an interesting workshop, followed by lunch and socializing – and it’s all free!
This eight-week program kicks off on June 18 with an aromatherapy workshop, followed by a nutritious lunch. The sessions run every Wednesday through August 13, with the exception of July 2, when there is no workshop.

Help with Rides
Can you offer an occasional ride to our members? Details can be flexible: maybe someone needs a ride TO an appointment but will be picked up by someone else. Or someone has a regular monthly appointment, and one volunteer might be able to provide a ride each month.
Stephanie McDonough, SSCA Administrator, does her best to match those needing rides with those who can provide them. Whether you need a ride or can offer one (or both!), you can reach Stephanie at (484) 437-8272. If you can offer rides, you can let her know your general availability. If you need a ride, please allow at least a few days in advance for the best possibility of a successful match with a driver.
