July Lunch Bunch Report

A dozen Swarthmore Seniors had a double treat in July with a tasty lunch and good company at the Vietnamese restaurant, Pho Philly, then a history lesson at nearby Governor Printz Park on the Delaware River in Essington. The park is on the site of the first permanent European settlement in present Pennsylvania, and of the Swedish Capitol, the Printzhof. Bill Morrel, our guide from the Swedish Colonial society, toured us through the log cabins re-created in the manner of the early Swedish settlers, giving us a glimpse of life on the farmstead established in 1643 for the pioneers gathered under the leadership of Johan Printz, governor of the colony. According to Bill, Printz was a bit of a rascal, as were many of the early settlers, who were often given the choice of punishment for petty crimes at home or the harsh life on the new frontier that was early America.

Help with Rides

Can you offer an occasional ride to our members?

Stephanie McDonough, SSCA Administrator, works hard to match those needing rides with those who can provide them. Whether you need a ride or can offer one (or both!), you can reach Stephanie at (484) 437-8272. If you can offer rides, you can let her know your general availability. If you need a ride, please allow at least a few days in advance for the best possibility of a successful match with a driver.

The SSCA offers a number of programs and other ways to get involved. Please email SwarthmoreSeniors@gmail.com to indicate your interests.
