I miss church! I miss singing. I miss communion in community. I miss the choir singing. Most of all, I miss you! I miss your faces, your news, and your hugs. I had no idea that this would last as long as it has or as long as it might. As chair of the team called “Welcome Back,” I am anxious to say just that. However, before we can welcome you back to church, we have a lot of work to do to balance your spiritual needs with your needs to stay safe.

By virtue of being a co-chair of the Worship, Arts and Education Forum, I will do my best to lead this effort. Team members were chosen based on expertise and personal needs: Dr. Tim Helton because he is a doctor. Ralph Bowlin because he is in an at-risk category for COVID. Michelle Leek because she is the mother of small children. Jay Donnelly because he is Chair of Trustees and therefore manages our facility. Non-voting members: Bryant Gibson as Pastor of Children and Youth, Nathan Brown as Senior Pastor, John Mills as President of the Congregation, and Kathy Gregory as Director of the Day School. Please feel free to reach out to me if you have any questions or concerns at bwlady@bellsouth.net .

This task will be a process. First, we will prepare ourselves by reaching out to you about your needs and concerns in the form of a survey. We need to know under what circumstances you would feel safe to return to worship. After that, we will discern how to balance your needs with our abilities to keep you and others safe. For instance, if it takes more volunteers to prepare the church and keep the congregants safe, then congregants wishing to attend, opening our sanctuary would not be justified. We also will establish guidelines for SSCC based on CDC, insurance, and state and local requirements. Once we have a plan for meeting again in person, our job will then be to communicate to you the what, why, and how of our decisions.

For our task to succeed, we will need two things from you – responses to our survey and your prayers.

With Gratitude,
Leslie Lady
How Long, O Lord….
A Sermon Series on Enduring Adversity

Perhaps there are no words that resonate more today than those from the Psalmist, “How Long, O Lord, how long?” We all, for different reasons, can’t help but feel those words in our every day lives. How long before this pandemic is over? How long before the kids can go back to school? How long will we have to endure racial inequality? How long before we can go back to church in person? How long, O Lord, how long? Join us for a sermon series in August, as we gain wisdom from the successes and failures of our spiritual ancestors in Genesis, on how to endure adversity.

You can join SSCC by a simple affirmation of faith anytime! If you want to join during this virtual time, just let us know you would like to join!
We are pleased to announce that our livestreaming equipment has officially been installed in our sanctuary! Therefore, on Sunday, August 16th, we will start livestreaming worship from the sanctuary! Worship will be live on both Facebook and YouTube at our normal worship hour of 10:15 AM. A recorded version will still also be posted to our Facebook and YouTube pages. Look to the newsletter and the Friday blast for more information.
On Sunday, August 16th, we will have our Back to School Sunday. While we don't know what that really looks like for most, we want SSCC's students and education staff to know we are thinking about them. Encourage your kids to gather their backpacks, phones, tablets and/or laptops while you are viewing service so we can bless them for this upcoming school year.

My Dear Church Family,

Just want to let you all know about a change in my life. It’s time for me to live minutes from my daughter and grandchildren. I’m moving to the Athens area on August 10.

In one week I privately sold my house to my dear neighbors, and had a binding agreement on another. I completely surrendered to God’s hand in
this, and calmly taking each step chose to trust the process. He put the right people on my path. I’m so blessed and grateful.

I know it’s not the same, but since we’ve become an on-line church I’m not leaving my precious community. I will still be attending services, singing in choir, enjoying my 2 book clubs and staying put through technology. It’s not so wrenching after all.

Peace to each one of you dear sisters and brothers. All is well. See you in church!

Love, Mary Shehan
Sally Tutterow would like everyone to have her phone number, as it was not listed in the last SSCC Directory. Her number is (770) 509-1994.
SSCC thanks you for all the love and blessings you provide. The 2nd quarter 'Giving Statements' have been sent - most by email, some by mail. If you have any questions or concerns, please contact Kathryn Hartman ( accounting@sandyspringcc.org ). “Great is Thy faithfulness!”
We are looking for those of you who would like to participate in Sunday's online worship services. If you would like to do the call to worship, read scripture, call to giving, or even participate in the children's moment, we would love to hear from you.

We prefer that you would participate by recording yourself and submitting a video (1 to 2 minutes at most) or a voice recording, and we can try to help you with that. We can send you guidelines and helpful hints on how to submit your part. Please email Amy@sandyspringscc.org if you would like to participate.
Due to the fact that we are holding "virtual" church service, and are not able to submit prayer requests, submit your requests to Merilyn@sandyspringscc.org or call her at 770-448-8784 and leave a message. Please indicate if your prayer request is confidential (for clergy and Elders only) or for congregational sharing in our newsletter).
SSCC has subscribed to zoom for anyone who might need it to virtually meet using a video conference method. Only one group can use our account at a time. If you would like your group to use zoom to virtually meet, please contact Amy Frost via em ail (amy@sandyspringscc.org) t o schedule your group on the calendar. We can help you learn how to send an invite to your group.
Some Tuesdays we send out a "Bright Spots" email. We want to encourage folks to participate by sharing pictures, videos, or submitting positive and uplifting messages or stories with the SSCC community. Be creative!

Let us know what you and your families are doing these days, how you're coping with being cooped up, and what you're doing different that you haven't done before.

You can email your submissions or any questions you may have to amy@sandyspringscc.org .
