Student Special Interest Group
Monthly Newsletter
Hello to our wonderful SSIG community,

Starting this year, we are collaborating with Scorebuilders to provide a
monthly question to help students prepare for the NPTE licensing exam!
It is never too early to test your knowledge or learn something new!

Just click the link below to see the question! Once you submit your response, the answers will be displayed with an explanation for why each answer is correct or incorrect.

Student Minority Scholarship Award
APTA VA is offering a monetary scholarship to minority PT/PTA students in their final academic year. All applications must be submitted by close of business on December 1st, 2021. This is a self-nomination application - if you have a classmate that you think this is applicable to, please share this information with them!
DEI Grand Rounds - Thank You

Thank you to those who participated in the virtual DEI Grand Rounds event. We had a diverse gathering of individuals from different PT/PTA programs across Virginia. There was lots of insightful input and perspectives shared in regards to the microaggressions, discrimination, and challenges that minorities may face as a clinician or as a patient.

Fall Summit:
Interview with Adaptive Athletes

The Student SIG will be hosting the Interviews with Adaptive Athletes on Saturday, November 6, 2021 from 3:15pm - 5:15pm. Each month we will highlight a different athlete that will be attending - this month we are featuring Shervonne Smith!

Shervonne is a proud masters degree holder, mother, and athlete who was born with CP. She has competed in para adaptive rowing, and enjoys competing in bodybuilding. She even earned professional status as a bodybuilder in competition due to her high placement. The gym plays a big part of Shervonne’s life as she shares her workout time between bodybuilding training and CrossFit training. She takes pride in being a positive role model for female athletes across ALL ability levels.

We are so excited to see Shervonne Smith at our Fall Summit and we hope you join us in giving her a warm welcome!
