LETTER FROM SISTER REGINA

The children in grades two through eight will receive the Sacrament of Penance tomorrow. I am grateful to Father Gerlach, Father Omeke and the visiting priests for providing this opportunity for the children to receive God’s forgiveness and grace.

Tomorrow evening, Friday, at 7:00PM our sixth grade students will present the Living Stations of the Cross in Church. Their portrayal of Jesus’ suffering and death on Good Friday is reverent and devout. Please join us as we pray and reflect on Jesus’ passion and death.

This Sunday Christians throughout the world will celebrate Palm Sunday, the final Sunday of Lent which marks the beginning of Holy Week, the holiest week of the year. Palm Sunday commemorates the triumphant arrival of Jesus in Jerusalem riding on a donkey where the townspeople greeted him, with shouts of “Hosanna” and waving palm branches. This is truly a grace-filled time as we celebrate Holy Thursday, Good Friday, and Easter Sunday. The children have been learning about these sacred events in religion class and I know you have been discussing these happenings at home. Hopefully, many of you will be able to come to Church with your children at 7:00PM to participate in Holy Thursday Mass, the remembrance of Jesus’ Last Supper. On Good Friday the Celebration of the Lord’s Passion will take place at 3:00PM. Another Good Friday prayerful opportunity, Living Stations of the Cross will begin at 8:00PM in our Church. There are many occasions to attend Mass at the Easter vigil on Saturday night (8:00PM) or on Easter Sunday as we celebrate Jesus’ Resurrection from the dead. We are gifted with new life, we sing Alleluia and our hearts are raised in gratitude and praise for God’s great love for each and every one of us.

On behalf of our parish priests, faculty, staff, and in my own name I extend to you and your families prayer-filled wishes for a very Happy and Blessed Easter Season.

Sister Regina

Spring Uniforms

We will begin wearing the Spring Uniform on April 3. Please be sure your child/ren are in the proper school and gym uniform. Refer to pages 9-11 in the Student/Parent Handbook. Boys’ hair needs to be above the shirt collar and out of the eyes. All boys are expected to follow this requirement. The handbook also states that girls (K-8) have the option of wearing navy blue knee socks or solid navy blue tights. Girls should not be wearing crew socks. The hem of the girls’ jumper or skort is to be no more than 3” above the knee. Thank you to all the parents who ensure that their child/ren follow the uniform code and wear their SSJ uniform proudly.

3rd Grade Mock Trial

SSJ’s 3rd grade students participated in a fun and educational experience. Each 3rd grade class held a mock trial in their classroom in partnership with the Chester County Intermediate Unit and Chester County Bar Association. The CCIU and Bar Association provided our students with vocabulary to learn; a lesson on deciphering between fact and opinion; and a full script presenting a case to be heard in civil court. The students studied the trial summary and spent time practicing their lines and getting into character. On the day of the mock trial, each side presented their case and the jury deliberated and came back with a verdict. The closing statements were written and given by the students on their own. A local attorney played the part of the judge, explained the process to the students, and spent time answering questions and presenting scenarios to think about after the mock trial. This helped the students to further understand the judicial system as they are about to begin studying the government in Social Studies class.

STREAM PROJECTS

Students in Mrs. King's 5th grade Spanish class constructed 3D "Pasos"/floats that are similar to those used in processions during Holy Week in Seville, Spain.
