Triangle Planning Study

The Calumet Triangle Corridor Study Open House is happening on Saturday, April 26, from 10:30 AM to 1:30 PM at the South Holland Community Center (501 E 170th St, South Holland, IL 60473). We hope you'll stop by to learn more about this exciting project, and to make your voice heard!


This event is an opportunity for residents, business owners, advocates, and community partners to help shape the future of transportation in South Holland, Lansing, and Calumet City. The project focuses on improving safety for pedestrians and cyclists, expanding transit options, revitalizing waterfront areas, and making key intersection and roadway improvements.

Attendees will be able to review draft recommendations, share their input, and participate in interactive activities. Children are welcome and can take part in a fun drawing exercise about how they get around their community. There will also be contests, giveaways, and refreshments. 


All are welcome—no need to be a resident to attend. 


Stop by anytime during the event and help us create a safer, more connected future for the Calumet Triangle communities.

Purchasing Cooperative Auction!

Thank you to Flossmoor, Hazel Crest, Thornton, Evanston, Lake Bluff, Lincolnshire, Lincolnwood, Oak Lawn, Palatine, and Skokie for signing up to participate in the Spring NWMC Surplus Vehicle and Equipment Auction. The auction will be held at noon on Tuesday, April 22 at America’s Auto Auction (America’s AA) in Crestwood. Now that it’s

spring, the auction is the perfect time to cull the herd of vehicles suffering from winter “lot rot” and earn the best possible price.


Please note that vehicles and equipment can be listed for sale right up to the morning of the auction day. Sell them now to get a fresh start and please keep in mind that a portion of the proceeds helps support the operations of the Conference.

Additional Grant Opportunities and Resources

• Cook County has launched two new grant opportunities to enhance community safety: Community Violence Intervention Grants (CC-CVI) and Wraparound Services for Survivors of Gun Violence (CC-SGV). Learn more.


• Cook County Board President Toni Preckwinkle has announced the Creative Placemaking grant program, a $2 million initiative supporting arts and culture in the suburbs. Grants ranging from $50,000 to $250,000 will be awarded to nonprofits leading projects that integrate arts, culture, and design to drive community revitalization.


• FEMA has released a NOFO for the Building Resilient Infrastructure and Communities (BRIC) grant program. BRIC grants are designed to assist communities in developing disaster risk planning, analyzing hazards, and implementing projects to increase resiliency and safety. Learn more.


• The Flood Mitigation Assistance Swift Current program provides $500 million in funding to reduce flood risk for NFIP-insured properties with repetitive or substantial flood damage. Learn more.

ACT NOW! Metropolitan Water Reclamation District of Greater Chicago Asking for Member Feedback


The Metropolitan Water Reclamation District (MWRD) is seeking input from Watershed Planning Council members on ways to improve future meetings. Severe Weather Training for Public Safety Workers – Register Now!


Severe weather season is here, and Cook County Emergency Management and Regional Security is partnering with the National Weather Service to help keep our communities safe. If your municipality has staff responsible for public safety at outdoor events—like graduations, festivals, street fairs, or employee gatherings—this essential training is for you.


Join Cook County EMRS for a one-day class (laptop or tablet required) offered at three convenient locations across Cook County. You’ll gain valuable insights into weather-related event planning and how to better protect the public during severe weather. Register here.

Public Comment on Transportation Programs Open until May 2 


The Chicago Metropolitan Agency for Planning (CMAP) is proposing four projects in the SSMMA area receive funds to improve mobility, increase safety, strengthen the economy, and enhance quality of life. The public is invited to comment on the list of projects until Friday, May 2, 2025. 


SSMMA projects include Calumet City’s State Street reconstruction in the Surface Transportation Program (STP)-Shared Fund, Park Forest’s 26th Street Multi-Use Path in the Congestion Mitigation and Air Quality (CMAQ), and Country Club Hills BP Pipeline in Transportation Alternative Program (TAP).

SPC Ford Updates


The SPC has been notified by Currie Motors that the 2025 Ford Utility Interceptor (Contract #204) factory order cutoff date is June 13, 2025. Please note that the Ford Escape Hybrids (Contract #206) are sold out for model year 2025 as commodity shortages continue. With the current uncertainties in the global supply chain, this could be a harbinger of
