Village of Dixmoor Receives $2 Million for Water Infrastructure Project
|
"This crisis has really hindered Dixmoor. We're going to move forward. We're gonna stand strong," said Mayor Fitzgerald Roberts as local and state leaders gathered in Dixmoor to announce a $2 million infrastructure project for the south suburban municipality.
As recent water main breaks have shed light on water infrastructure issues in Dixmoor, residents agree that the recent award of federal and local funds from the U.S. Army of Corps Engineers is a step in the right direction.
The funding will result in 3,600 feet of 12-inch-diameter water line that will run under I-57. The new water main line will improve water flow to homes. Construction is set to begin by spring of 2023, according to Paul Culberson, the corps’ district commander, who spoke at a news conference in Dixmoor.
Village officials were joined by Cook County Board President Toni Preckwinkle and U.S. Rep Robin Kelly. Both Preckwinkle and Kelly presented the check to the south suburban village.
"Thanks to the good work of President Biden and passing of the Infrastructure Investment and Jobs Act, our country has finally seen the beginnings of a historic investment in our communities," said Cook County Board President Toni Preckwinkle.
According to the corps, the estimated completion of the project is one year and will ensure residents, schools, and business in the Village of Dixmoor have access to clean water.
