Cook County Awards Transit Grants for South Suburban Projects

The Cook County Department of Transportation and Highways has announced the list of 34 projects that will receive funding under the 2021 Invest in Cook grant program. A total of $8,502,580 will be distributed across 29 municipalities and will fund four transit, 15 bicycle/pedestrian, three freight and 12 road projects.
Several south suburban municipalities are among the award recipients, including Country Club Hills, Harvey, Oak Forest, Phoenix, Posen, Sauk Village, Thornton, and Worth. Awards will go towards improving streets, conducting planning studies, and reconstructing sidewalks throughout the south suburbs.
- The City of Country Club Hills will be receiving $744,000 to construct sidewalks on the east side of Pulaski Road, which will create a pedestrian route over Interstate 80.
- The City of Harvey has been granted $150,000 to complete a quiet-zone study along the CSX Railroad crossings. In addition, $600,000 will go to Metra for renovating the 147th Sibley Boulevard station in Harvey.
- The City of Oak Forest will construct nearly a mile of sidewalks with a grant of $59,500.
- The Village of Posen is expected to receive a grant of $500,000 that will go towards funding a study of railroad grade crossing improvements. The study also includes areas of Dixmoor and Blue Island.
- The Village of Pheonix will be receiving $221,000 to repair streets throughout neighborhoods.
- The Village of Sauk Village will use the $100,000 award for pedestrian improvements on the main streets.
- The Village of Thornton will receive $100,000 for a mobility study.
- The Village of Worth will use their award of $500,000 to improve sidewalks and paths.
According to the County, 67% of grants going toward projects in low- and moderate-income communities.

• Safe Routes to Schools grant funding will open from August 16th until September 30th. The program funds projects that improve conditions for walking and biking within 2-miles of an elementary or middle school. There will be two webinars starting at 11:30am on August 19th to learn about the application process and September 8th for Q&As.
• The Metropolitan Water Reclamation District (MWRD) is now accepting applications for the Green Infrastructure Partnership Program until September 6th. Learn more.
• The Illinois Department of Natural Resources is currently accepting applications for two funding opportunities: the Open Space Lands Acquisition and Development (OSLAD) Program and the federal Land & Water Conservation Fund program. Applications are due by September 1st. Learn more.
• Take the Fair Transit South Cook Survey to share how you're currently using transit and how the pilot can best serve your needs. Fair Transit South Cook is a three-year pilot project that offers up to 50% reduced fares on the Metra Electric and Rock Island lines and enhances service on Pace Route 352 Halsted for residents of the south side of Chicago, south suburban Cook and north Will counties. • The U.S. Department of Transportation has announced a Notice of Funding Opportunity (NOFO) for $16.3 million in grant funding for projects that help lift communities out of poverty by providing transit services improvements in under-served communities. The Application deadline is August 30th. Learn more.

Ford Announces Factory Order Cut-Off Dates for 2022 F-250 & F-450 Super Duty Trucks
- The Suburban Purchasing Cooperative (SPC) has been advised of Ford Motor Company's announcement that November 12, 2021 is the factory order cut-off date for the 2022 F-250XL 4x2 Super Duty (Contract #178) and F 450 XL 4x2 Chassis Cab (Contract #181). Currie Motors is the SPC vendor for both contracts.

SPC Quadruples Purchasing Offerings with Sourcewell Program Expansion
- The Suburban Purchasing Cooperative (SPC) is thrilled to announce a massive expansion of our alliance with Sourcewell provides access to over one hundred and eighty new products and services through Sourcewell’s national cooperative purchasing program.
- Expansion of the Sourcewell/SPC partnership reinforces the SPC’s goal of combining the resources and purchasing power of member governments and not-for-profit entities to jointly negotiate advantageous contract terms on high-quality products and services at the lowest possible price. It kicks up economies of scale in terms of pricing and staff resource savings to the next level!
On Thursday, the SPC Governing Board unanimously approved the SPC/Sourcewell agreement, which runs through July 30, 2024, and initially includes 183 Sourcewell contracts.
- Through Sourcewell, the SPC now can offer our members access to a dynamic scope of programs, including products and services required for compliance with the Illinois Law Enforcement Officer-Worn Body Camera Act as well as electric vehicle charging stations and other equipment to support green initiatives.
