• On Friday, February 4, 2022, the City of Chicago, Cook County, and the State of Illinois convened a joint summit to inform organizations on what it takes to be ready to apply for grants and contracts funded by ARPA. Find the presentations here.

COVID-19 News
As vaccination efforts across south suburban Cook continue, the percentage of vaccinated south suburban residents is progressing slowly. SSMMA's COVID Vaccine Tracker shows that the current regional vaccination rate is 53.4%, compared to 66.8% statewide.

  • As of February 11th, the seven-day average positivity rate for the SSMMA region is 4.07%, versus 5.2% for Suburban Cook County.

State and Local COVID-19 Information

• Cook County Department of Public Health released a statement on COVID mandates as of February 9th.

Will County Health Department & Community Center allows residents to schedule first-time vaccinations and booster shots directly on their website.
Community Vaccination Information
• The mass vaccination site in Matteson has re-opened from 8am-6pm Tues-Sat and from 10am-4pm on Sunday. Walk-ins are welcome.

• All Cook County Health Community Centers are offering Pfizer vaccines for children 5+.

South Suburban College is partnering with IDPH to provide all three vaccinations and PCR testing Monday - Saturday from 8:00am - 4:00pm.

• Cook County Department of Public Health is partnering with Kaizen Health for the Destination to Vaccination program to assist residents with rides to get their vaccines.

• The Pritzker Administration has announced $45 million in grants through the Restore, Reinvest, and Renew (R3) Program for eligible organizations. Learn more.

Cook County Announces Call for Invest in Cook and Community Development Block Grant Program Applications
• Cook County Department of Transportation and Highways is now accepting applications for the Invest in Cook and Community Development Block Grant Program.

The application deadline for both programs is Wednesday, March 16th at 5:00pm. For more information contact Kristi DeLaurentiis or Leslie Phemister.

Office of Congressman Bobby Rush Announce FEMA Grant Opportunity for Local Fire Departments in Illinois
• The Office of Congressman Bobby Rush has announced the Fire Prevention & Safety Program directly available to fire departments and non-profit organizations through FEMA.

The application deadline is Friday, February 18th at 5:00 pm.

• On February 18th at 4:00 pm ClayCo, Inc. will be partnering with Country Club Hills Mayor James Ford to host a Virtual Construction Outreach Fair.

• This event is for Country Club Hill contractors, union cardholders, and those interested in apprenticeship and career trades. Register here.

• Pace and RTA are looking for the public to complete a survey for feedback on I-294 Tri-State Market & Facilities Feasibility Study.

• The ongoing Illinois Tollway Central Tri-State Project will incorporate improvements including Flex Lanes, which will be available to Pace buses to avoid congestion.

• The Opportunity Works Program is currently accepting applications for a 6 week paid career development opportunity for unemployed young adults in suburban Cook County between the ages of 16-24.

The program offers careers in Manufacturing, Information Technology, Transportation, Distribution and Logistics, and other sectors.

The United States Department of Transportation announced they are accepting project applications through the Rebuilding American Infrastructure with Sustainability and Equity (RAISE) Grant Program.

Applications are due on April 14, 2022, by 5:00pm.

Ford SPC Vehicle Updates

  • The Suburban Purchasing Cooperative (SPC) has been informed by Ford Motor Company that hybrid units of the Police Interceptor Utility (contract #204) and the Escape (contract #206) have sold out for the remainder of the model year. Non-hybrid versions of both vehicles are still available but please be aware that production times on most vehicles are running in excess of 30 weeks.

  • Specifications for 2023 Ford Super Duty vehicles should be available in late March, which will enable the SPC to solicit bids on these popular vehicles. For additional information, please contact staff or Tom Sullivan, tsullivan@curriemotors.com, or 815-464-9200.

NWMC Extends Surplus Vehicle and Equipment Auction Agreement

  • The NWMC Board has approved the second of four possible, one-year contract extensions on the Agreement for Auctioneer Services with America's Auto Auction. The extension runs from February 15, 2022, through February 14, 2023, and under the same terms.

  • The 2022 Municipal Auction dates are scheduled for noon on Tuesday, April 19th, Tuesday, July 19th, and Tuesday, October 18th at America's Auto Auction in Crestwood. For additional information, please contact staff or Barry Ellis, berry.ellis@americasautoauction.com or call 312-371-5993.
