U.S. Census Bureau Reports Illinois Population Grows to 13 Million
|
According to a recent report released by the U.S. Census Bureau, the state of Illinois was undercounted by nearly 2% during the 2020 Census.
“These latest numbers from the U.S. Census Bureau show that Illinois is now a state on the rise with a growing population,” Governor Pritzker said in a statement.
“While it is disappointing that these numbers were not reflected in the initial count, I have already spoken to members of our congressional delegation and will work tirelessly to ensure Illinois receives its fair share of federal funding.”
South suburban leaders and officials currently have the option to work with the Census Bureau to challenge counts within their local municipalities. Mayors or managers can request a Count Question Resolution to review existing data collected by the Census for free until June 2023.
Starting in 2023, municipalities will also have the option to request a Special Census for recount which must be paid for by the requesting community.
The Metropolitan Mayors Caucus offers additional information about these resources for local municipalities interested in these options.
