Southland Projects Need Your Support |
Three Southland Projects have been selected to be programmed for funding from CMAP’s STP-Shared Fund. The Dixie Hwy reconstruction project in Harvey, Dixmoor and Posen. Calumet Park’s Ashland Avenue Complete Streets modernization. Alsip’s 131st Street reconstruction, which will include the Cal-Sag Trail.
The Transportation Alternatives Program (TAP) is programming four Southland Projects. University Park has two sidepath projects connecting the Metra Station with the community.
The Robey Trail in Harvey is a north-south connection from 159th to 147th streets. Tinley Park’s connection of 84th Avenue and 179th Street completes gaps in their trail system.
Please tell CMAP how important these projects are to the Southland by submitting comments on the proposed programs. Comments must be received by 4:00 p.m. Friday, July 30th.

Due to a large number of job openings throughout the south suburbs, CSEDC will host an outdoor job fair and hiring event on Thursday, July 22nd from 10:00am until 2:00pm. The event will take place at One Space, 208 Forest Blvd. Park Forest, IL 60466.
On-site interviewers and employers include Amazon, Alpha Products, Avatar, Bimba, Dots Foods, LB Steel, National Tube Supply, and Solvay. Resumes are required and can be uploaded here.
There will also be a free expungement clinic on-site at this event. Residents should bring their RAP sheets along with a valid ID. Register here for the clinic.

The National Endowment for the Arts is offering two programs to distribute $135 million under the American Rescue Plan. Funds are available for nonprofits and local agencies that focus on the culture and arts sectors. The deadline is August 12th. Learn more and apply.

Covid-19 testing and vaccinations are available during a back to school event hosted at Greater Christian Unity Baptist Church in Robbins on July 24th from 11:00am until 2:00pm. School supplies, food and book bags will be distrubted as well.

Suburban Cook County Officials Urge Residents to Get Vaccinated

More than 1.3 million suburban Cook County residents (around 59%) have received at least one dose of a COVID-19 vaccine, but only 48.2% of the population is fully vaccinated, according to the latest CCDPH vaccine data.

NWMC Municipal Auction July 20, 2021
- Please join Evanston, Lincolnshire, Palatine, Park Forest, Skokie, and Thornton at the NWMC Surplus Vehicle and Equipment Auction and turn your old inventory into revenue! The live auction will begin at noon at America's Auto Auction, 14001 S. Karlov Avenue in Crestwood. America's AA offers a wide variety of convenient services to prep your vehicles and garner the highest possible price.
- Vehicles and equipment can be listed for disposal at the NWMC auction right up to the morning of the auction day. Sell them now to get a fresh start and please keep in mind that a portion of the proceeds helps support the operations of the organization. If you can't make the July event, a live fall auction will be held on October 19.

SPC Extends Fuel Contract

The Suburban Purchasing Cooperative (SPC) Governing Board has approved the first of three, one-year contract extensions of the 2021 Gasoline (87, 89, & 92 Octane), Diesel Fuel, Ethanol 75 & 85, and B20 Bio Diesel Fuel (Contract #198) to Al Warren Oil Co., Inc. The contract extension runs from July 6, 2021, through July 5, 2022, and the SPC reserves the right to extend the contract for two additional one-year periods under the same terms and conditions of the original contract. SPC Extends Telecommunications Contract
- The Suburban Purchasing Cooperative (SPC) Governing Board has approved the second of four (4) possible, one-year contract extensions on the Telecommunication Services Vendor for Term (Contract #188) to Call One, Inc. of Chicago.
