Share Your Input On SSMMA's Calumet Triangle Planning Study Survey

Public encouraged to share their experiences on mobility, accessibility, economic potential, and quality of life in Calumet City, Lansing, and South Holland

We Want to Hear from You!

The South Suburban Mayors and Managers Association (SSMMA) asks you to fill out the community survey for the Calumet Triangle Area Planning Study. This study is a unique opportunity to shape the future of a critical region that encompasses portions of South Holland, Lansing, and Calumet City. The Calumet Triangle is defined by a central focus on Torrence Avenue and River Oaks Drive, extending south to Ridge Road and west to State Street.

What is the Calumet Triangle Planning Study?

The Calumet Triangle Planning Study seeks to reimagine this critical area, not just by improving transportation networks but by considering the full scope of elements that contribute to a thriving community. Our approach is multidisciplinary, integrating a wide range of factors that impact daily life, from how we move through the area to how we experience its public spaces. Here are the key areas we aim to address:

· Transportation Improvements: We want to create a transportation network that works for everyone—pedestrians, cyclists, drivers, and public transit users. This means safer streets, more accessible transit options, and better connectivity throughout the region.

·  Enhanced Land Use: We are looking at ways to make the Calumet Triangle more dynamic by optimizing how land is used. This includes supporting a mix of residential, commercial, and recreational spaces that meet the needs of the community and encourage sustainable growth.

·  Reimagined Streetscape and Urban Design: By focusing on streetscape improvements, we aim to make the Calumet Triangle safer and more attractive. This involves enhancing the visual appeal, functionality, and safety of streets and public areas, creating a welcoming environment for all.

·  Expanded Open Spaces: We recognize the importance of green spaces for community enjoyment and well-being. Our study will explore opportunities to develop and improve public parks and natural areas, particularly around the Little Calumet River and other key locations.

Why Your Input Matters

We believe that the most effective plans are those that reflect the voices of the community. That's why we are inviting you to be a part of this process. Your insights, ideas, and priorities will be essential in shaping the future of the Calumet Triangle. Whether you live, work, or frequently visit the area, your input will help us understand the community's needs and aspirations.
