State Representative Anthony DeLuca Hosts Southland Disaster Preparedness Meeting

On Thursday, October 1, State Representative Anthony DeLuca (80th District – Chicago Heights) convened a meeting on Disaster Preparedness & Government Management, bringing together community officials, state legislators, and county and state Emergency Management and Regional Security (EMRS) representatives, including Illinois Emergency Management Agency Director Theodore “Ted” Berger, to discuss the major storm systems that devastated many Southland communities over the summer. With Illinois leading the country with 212 confirmed tornadoes this year—and several directly impacting south suburban communities over the summer—the meeting focused on how to access resources and assistance from county and state EMRS partners once local resources are depleted and, importantly, how municipal leaders and personnel can and should be better prepared for significant storms and unanticipated disasters in the future.

More information is available at www.IML.org/disaster. The IEMA Training Center also provides training and resources to help communities prepare for and respond to emergencies.
