A Practice and communication framework for music studentspractice
Hello Suzuki Parents,

As you may know, for the past two years I have been working with Suzuki violin parent Christie Zimmer to develop a practice and communication framework for music students, parents and teachers with the following objectives in mind:
  • managing frustration and resistance in home practice sessions,
  • encouraging practicing with a purpose -- both to make practicing more effective and repetitions more interesting,
  • fostering independent learning through observations, problem solving and asking questions, and
  • strengthening communication between students, parents and teachers.
Together we created a guided notebook for lesson and practice notes and many of our Suzuki families are trying it this year for the first time.
I would like to invite you to join Christie and me on Tuesday, February 26th at 7:30 pm at the GYMC for a chat on the progress of your practicing so far this year and your experience with our notebook. We'd love to share our ideas for using notetaking to guide your child toward independent learning and we'd love to hear about your and your child's practicing and learning experiences so far this year.
If you haven't had the chance to see our notebook yet and would like to learn more, we'd love for you to join the discussion, too.
In addition to our chat, there will be coffee, tea and sweet treats. If you're able to join us, please let us know using this doodle poll:  https://doodle.com/poll/5grsus3qwzrmhmvp
Looking forward to seeing you on the 26th!

The Guelph Connections Concerts connections
Dear Friends of Guelph Connections Concerts,

Let's celebrate the end of Winter together!

Yes, as we hunker down through yet another February snow and ice storm I really am inviting you to celebrate the end of Winter! The Late Winter Cycle of concerts begins in two weeks, on February 26, and I know this next set of concerts will be sure to warm up your hearts if not the thermometer.

The first concert of the End of Winter Cycle, February 26th, is the narrative poem "Enoch Arden" by Alfred, Lord Tennyson, which Richard Strauss set for recitation and piano. This concert features pianist Stephan Sylvestre with Gerald Neufeld as narrator. This late Romantic work is followed by an early romantic concert, March 5, with Eviole "The Birds and the Bees" featuring soprano, mezzo-soprano, cello and harpsichord. More soul warming music follows with piano soloist Luke Welch performing works including Chopin and Schumann, and the Wall Scholtes Stewart-Kroeker Piano Trio playing Schubert and Rachmaninoff. To round out the End of Winter Cycle is the not to be missed Odin String Quartet who will perform Haydn, Webern and more.

Come out of the cold into the warmth of beautiful St. George's Church and I will as always look forward to greeting you at the door.

Best regards,

Marlena Tureski
