Friday Speak Out:
Writing to Heal!
The "Writing to Heal" event held last Friday was an incredibly powerful experience that allowed participants the opportunity to write memoir pieces. The memoirs shared by the writers were deeply poignant, offering a raw and authentic glimpse into their personal journeys. Each story invited the audience to connect with the writer on a profound level, allowing them to "be" with the writer in an intimate, emotional way. The event not only showcased the healing power of writing but also illuminated deeply personal and communal stories. The writers shared vulnerable moments from their lives that shed light on larger systemic issues, including immigration, racism, the carceral system, poverty, and trauma. These powerful stories invited reflection, while highlighting the interconnectedness of individual and collective struggles. The panel discussions, featuring social workers, community organizers, and activists, further enriched the event by exploring urgent, complex issues. They emphasized the importance of unity and collective action, underscoring the transformative power of coming together to address societal challenges.
