Research conducted by SSW Associate Professor Zachary Morris and colleagues from the National Disability Institute and the University of Tennessee, Knoxville, was cited in a New York Times piece earlier last week. The article, titled "More Disabled People Can Open Special Savings Accounts. Do You Qualify?" referenced research Dr. Morris jointly published in 2020 that revealed households containing an adult with a work-restricting disability require 28 percent more income to achieve the same standard of living experienced by a household without an adult with a disability.

You Don’t Want to Miss This!

UUP Opens 2026 Scholarship Application 

SUNY students are invited to apply for UUP’s annual College Scholarship Fund scholarships.


The UUP College Scholarship Fund Undergraduate Scholarship offers a maximum of 4 $3,000 scholarships to SUNY undergraduates who excel academically and are dedicated to the goals and ideals of the labor movement. Applicants must be full-time students enrolled at SUNY state-operated schools and have a minimum grade point average of 3.75.


Full-time graduate SUNY students can apply for UUP’s William Scheuerman Post Baccalaureate Scholarship. The deadline to apply for the scholarships is March 1, 2026. Applications are available on UUP’s website, at https://uupinfo.org/awards/.

Open to all students who have earned their MSW by July 1, 2026
