BSW Students Honored for Academic Achievement

Eight BSW students were honored at the recent Stony Brook University Academic Achievement Award ceremony, which acknowledged students who maintained a 4.0 GPA for at least two semesters with a cumulative GPA of 3.85 or higher.


Less than 250 students were recognized for this achievement, representing less than 1% of the SBU undergraduate student body. Recognized among the SSW students were Cenia Larios, Ericka Marrero, Gianna Juliano, India Carranza, Mackenzie Evans, Samuel Ramos, Chloe Somontin, and Marie Yamamoto. Congratulations!

Recognizing outstanding dedication and contributions of our students and instructors within the Practicum Education program. Let's celebrate those who have exemplified excellence and commitment in practicum!


Award Categories:


1. Outstanding Practicum Student Award - Honors a student at any level (BSW Senior, 1st

year MSW, 2nd year/Advanced Standing) who has demonstrated exceptional skills,

integrity, and compassion in their practicum placement. 


2. Practicum Instructor of the Year - Celebrates a practicum instructor who has provided

exemplary supervision, mentorship, and guidance

SSW Professor Featured in Morning Grounds, Morning Rounds SBM Video Series


Dr. Michelle Ballan, Professor and Associate Dean for Research, SSW, Professor, Department of Family, Population & Preventive Medicine and Director of the Leadership Education in Neurodevelopmental and related Disabilities (LEND) Program, was a featured guest on Morning Grounds, Morning Rounds with Dr. William Wertheim, Executive Vice President, Stony Brook Medicine, discussing her research and practice focus on the health and well-being of individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities and their families.

MSW fellowship Opportunity for Final Year or Advanced Standing Master of Social Work Students Committed to Mental Health Services to Underserved Communities.


All current first year students who meet the eligibility criteria are encouraged to apply by the May 19 deadline.

For 6 years, at least 1 of our MSW students has been awarded and they benefited greatly from the mentorship, free professional development opportunities, attendance to CSWE conference, and generous stipend during their second year.
