SSW Ambassadors with the SSW Student Services team

Last week, the School of Social Welfare's Student Ambassadors came together for a training session to prepare for the academic year ahead. Representing both BSW and MSW programs, these student leaders play a vital role in welcoming and supporting prospective, incoming, and current students.


By sharing their own experiences, assisting with outreach and events, and fostering connection and community within the school, the Ambassadors help create a welcoming and inclusive environment for all.

Meet the Student Leaders Behind the Undergraduate Social Welfare Alliance (USWA)

The Undergraduate Social Welfare Alliance (USWA) serves as the representative body for all students in the undergraduate program. Dedicated to amplifying student voices, USWA works to build an engaged and connected community within SSW and across the University.

MSW Students Represent Puerto Rico Study Abroad Program


MSW students Grace Derosset and Izzy Seda represented the School of Social Welfare at the International Academic Programs Study Abroad Fair on West Campus, promoting Professor Anna Hayward's summer class in Puerto Rico. 


This course focuses on community resilience and environmental justice. It is open to undergraduate and graduate social work students at SBU and any SUNY students.


The course will be conducted in June, 2026. More information to come. Email Anna.Hayward@stonybrook.edu with any questions.

Be Inspired and Share Your Story. Volunteers wanted for the Third Annual Human Library Event!


The Human Library at Stony Brook University is an in-person event designed to challenge stereotypes and prejudice through open dialogue with real people.


They are looking for Human Books to be a part of the Human Library event on Wednesday, November 19, 12 to 3 pm and 4 to 7 pm. As a Book, you would be sharing your own experiences to help challenge prejudice, misconceptions, and stereotypes.


Please apply to be a Book, nominate someone, or volunteer below by Friday, October 17.
