ST. AUG TO HONOR 33 ALUMNI NFL PLAYERS
NEW ORLEANS - Current and former National Football League (NFL) players who graduated from St. Augustine High School will return to their alma mater to be honored at a special reception on Saturday, February 2, 2013, from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m. at the St. Augustine High School Cafeteria.
There are thirty-three graduates of St. Augustine who went on to play in the NFL. The three currently active NFL players are BenJarvus Green-Ellis of the Cincinnati Bengals, Patrick Trahan of the Chicago Bears, and Selvish Capers of the New York Giants.

Two St. Augustine graduates who are now NFL coaches-Carter Sheridan, Offensive Assistant for the New Orleans Saints, and Harold Nash, Head Strength and Conditioning Coach for the New England Patriots-will also be honored.
The event will begin with a reception where the alumni and guests will be given tours of the school followed by a special presentation to the honorees hosted by St. Augustine graduate Rory Verrett, Vice President and head of talent management for the NFL.
Throughout its 62-year history, St. Augustine has been well known for its ability to develop talented athletes. In 2004, the historic high school had the second most active players in the NFL.
When asked about the impact St. Augustine had on his professional career, former New Orleans Saints Pro Bowler Tyrone Hughes said, "Being a Purple Knight taught me the true essence of what it is to be a man on and off the field."

NEW ORLEANS - Super Bowl Host Committee in partnership with the Young Leadership Council and New Orleans Area Habitat for Humanity is organizing a city-wide service day at 5 NORDC parks around the City. These projects are a part of the NFL and the City of New Orleans partnership to revitalize public spaces. Park locations include: the Lyons Center, Palmer Park, Hunter's Field, Kingswood Park and Pontchartrain Park.
Types of Service Projects:
Landscaping projects led by Hike for KaTREEna
* Washing feet and distributing shoes to youth led by Samaritans Feet
* Construction projects led by New Orleans Area Habitat for Humanity
* Light bulb and backyard garden installations led by Green Light New Orleans
* And many more!
The deadline to sign up to volunteer is next Thursday, January 31st. Please be aware that when you turn in this form we are relying on you to show up from 8am till 12pm on Saturday February 2nd. Due to liability concerns, all volunteers for this event must be pre-registered.

"ROAD TO THE BIG GAME TOUR" BLAZES THROUGH LOUISIANA

SHREVEPORT, LOUISIANA - The Louisiana Black Chamber of Commerce actively supports Entertainment and Tourism for the state of Louisiana, and is co-hosting a world-wind tour, "Road to the Big Game", as it blazes through the state. Over the week, The Sideline Group and their All-Star performance team, Sideline Dolls (comprised of NFL Cheerleaders from various teams) will make media and community appearances en route to several events for Super Bowl XLVII. The Tour Bus will depart from Dallas, TX, Tuesday, January 29, 2013 and will make their first stop in Shreveport. The Hilton Shreveport, and Convention & Tourist Bureaus across the state welcome the tour.
In Shreveport, some stops are: Shriners Hospital for Children, the first of 22 such hospitals across the country (10:00am - 10:45am), George Fritze and Red River Chevrolet, the 2009 TIME Magazine Dealer of the Year (3:00pm - 4:00pm), SPAR's Southern Hills Recreation Center (4:30pm - 5:30pm), and a Meet & Greet at Ralph & Kacoo's (7:00pm - 8:00pm). They will greet attendees of the Sesame Street Live Show, "Can't Stop Singing", at the CenturyLink Center on Tuesday night, 1/29/13.
Other stops: Alexandria, Lafayette, New Iberia, Lake Charles, and Baton Rouge. In Lake Charles, a gymnasium full of 500 high-spirited 5-6-7th graders at Lake Charles Charter Academy will welcome them. And Chef Brett Breaux can't wait to show off his culinary skills in New Iberia at the all new Caf� Des Amis, home of the World-Famous Zydeco Brunch. "While everyone knows and loves New Orleans (self-included), we wanted to help garner a broader appreciation of the entire state and its Southern Hospitality", said Zazell Dudley, President of the Louisiana Black Chamber of Commerce.
Once in New Orleans, The Sideline Dolls will help kick off the weekend with a celebrity studded event at The Celebration of Excellence, a red carpet affair on Friday, February 1, 2013, at New Orleans Museum of Art (NOMA). This tour and event will bring a huge impact on both economics and education for the state.
