Dear Sisters and Brothers in Christ -

Summer is underway. Just a reminder that our daily mass schedule is reduced through Labor Day to one daily mass at 7am and the church is open until 5pm for prayer.

Juneteenth is a federal holiday celebrated this Friday, June 19th and is a kind of second independence day. The origin dates to June 1865. Even though the Emancipation Proclamation was signed by President Abraham Lincoln in 1863 and the Confederate army surrendered to the Union army in April 1865, enslaved people in Texas could not exercise their freedom until June 19, 1865 when Union troops, many of whom were Black, arrived at Galveston Bay, where they announced Lincoln's executive decree.

If you are travelling, we hope that your time will be restful, refreshing, and safe. I'll be making way to DC via NYC this weekend for a conference.

Outreach (also known as Outreach: An LGBTQ Catholic Resource) is a Catholic news and opinion website for LGBTQ Catholics. The organization was founded by Jesuit priest James Martin in conjunction with America magazine. The site features news stories, opinion pieces and resources pertaining to the Catholic Church and the LGBTQ community featuring a variety of voices, scholarly, theological, and magisterial who reflect on LGBTQ ministry.

Every year, Outreach hosts a conference, which gathers lay people, clergy, scholars, artists, educators, students and family members. This year, the conference is being held at Georgetown University. Among the speakers are Cardinal McElroy, Archbishop of Washington, DC, James Martin, and Kerry Robinson of Catholic Charities.

I was invited to serve on a panel on ministry in parishes, focusing on our Paulist ministry during my time at St. Paul the Apostle in NYC. So I'll be in DC this weekend. Please pray for all those who feel separated from the Church.

Happy Fathers' Day!

Peace and blessings,

Father Gil
