Dr. Ryan M. Thomas, MD, FACS (STA Class of 1995) is a surgical oncologist at the University of Florida and the North Florida/South Georgia VA Medical Center, where he serves as chief of general surgery and treats patients with cancers of the pancreas, liver, and esophagus. Dr. Thomas was recently awarded a $722,000 American Cancer Society - Norma and Rich DiMarco Mentored Research Scholar Grant (MRSG-17-228-01-TBG) for work investigating factors that accelerate pancreatic cancer development. He is married to Janice, a pediatric surgeon, and they have two children, Henry (4) and Nora (2).

He received his bachelor’s degree from John Carroll University and his medical degree from Loyola University of Chicago Stritch School of Medicine.

Dr. Thomas’s honors biology teacher during his time at STA was Mr. Darrell Woods and his honors chemistry teacher was Mr. Joe Vagedes (both still teaching at STA!).
