Be Unique - Be a Leader - Be Aquinas
Knightly News - September 4, 2017
Principal's Post

We have now completed two weeks at school and everyone is starting to settle into a good rhythm that is conducive to learning. There are a couple of upcoming events to which I want to invite everyone in the STA community.

  1. Meet the new St. Thomas Aquinas President, Mr. Dan Gravo, this Thursday at 6:30 in the commons. Mr. Gravo will share his thoughts on St. Thomas Aquinas and answer questions.
  2. St. Thomas Aquinas will host an Open House on September 14th, from 5:00 until 6:30 before the Central Game. Please encourage friends who are considering St. Thomas Aquinas for their children to attend. You are our best advertisers.

Please continue to pray for St. Thomas Aquinas High School and Middle School this week.

St. Thomas Aquinas, pray for us.

Bishop Murry Appointed...
August 23, 2017--

The United States Conference of Catholic Bishops today announced the establishment of an Ad Hoc Committee Against Racism. Initiated by Cardinal Daniel N. DiNardo of Galveston-Houston, President of the USCCB, the committee will focus on addressing the sin of racism in our society, and even in our Church, and the urgent need to come together as a society to find solutions.

Bishop George V. Murry, S.J. of Youngstown, Ohio has been appointed by Cardinal DiNardo as Chairman of the committee. The membership of the committee will be finalized in the coming days and its mandate will be confirmed at the first meeting, expected very shortly.

"I look forward to working with my brother bishops as well as communities across the United States to listen to the needs of individuals who have suffered under the sin of racism and together find solutions to this epidemic of hate that has plagued our nation for far too long," says Bishop Murry. "Through Jesus' example of love and mercy, we are called to be a better people than what we have witnessed over the past weeks and months as a nation. Through listening, prayer and meaningful collaboration, I'm hopeful we can find lasting solutions and common ground where racism will no longer find a place in our hearts or in our society."
Canton Ex-Newsboys Providing Assistance
“No School Child Shall Miss School For Need of Shoes or Clothing.” The Canton Ex-Newsboys have stood by this motto for more than 50 years!

The Canton Ex-Newsboys Association was founded in 1960 as a 100% charitable organization, providing needy children in Stark County with clothing and shoes. One hundred percent of donations goes towards purchasing shoes, clothing, and coats for children, ages kindergarten through 12th grade. Our caring, non-profit organization has spent decades helping needy children throughout the Stark community.

Each Stark County school has a person on staff to assist students in need. STA's staff member, Christine Barnett, works with students and parents to submit the application to the Canton Ex-Newsboys. The school staff member will connect with the family once the application has been reviewed to assist with their needs.

Since their inception, the Canton Ex-Newsboys have provided $3.3 million in coats, shoes and other clothing to the needy children of Stark County, all thanks to generous donations and participation by our community. Over the years, more than 45,000 children have been recipients of the Ex-Newsboys efforts!

Remembering a Coach and a Friend
Michael S. Rogers age 62 of Louisville, went to heaven on Saturday August 26, 2017. Michael was a 1973 graduate of Alliance High School and a 1977 graduate of Mount Union College.
Mike was the STA wrestling coach in the early 80's. He was also an STA baseball coach from 2000-2005 and again from 2009-2017. He was on the staff for all three District Championships the program won. He will be missed.

Coach Joe Bishop had this to say about his former coach and mentor, "Coach Rogers has been a huge part of my baseball career. Both as a high school player when he was my coach, and for the last nine years as a friend and mentor. He has inspired many with his love for the game and passion for life. Aquinas baseball will never be the same without him."

Ways to Support STA
St Thomas Aquinas High School is partnering with Schoola ( ).

What’s Schoola? It’s a great way to raise funds for our school. Schoola collects pre-loved women's and children’s clothes, preps and sells them online, and gives 40% of the proceeds (minus the cost of inbound shipping) back to St Thomas Aquinas High School to help fund programs for our kids. That’s $2 out of every $5 earned back to our school! Simply click on the image to view our very own Schoola landing page where you can request a bag and view our progress and funds earned

The AmazonSmile Foundation will donate 0.5% of the price of eligible purchases to St. Thomas Aquinas High School & Middle School to help fund programs for our students. Every little bit counts, donations quickly add up.

It's easy! Type and log into your account. Select St. Thomas Aquinas High School (yes the Middle School benefits too!), Louisville, OH. That's it. Now whenever you make a purchase STA benefits.

Thank you for your support!

Don't forget to forward this to your family and friends! And encourage them to  sign up  to receive their own copy of this email blast.
