SACC Lending Library

Did you know that Mid State School Age Care Providers have access to a resource library developed especially for them? The SACC lending library provides books and resources for activities in art, drama, sports, as well as academic areas such as literacyhistory and STEM. There are also many resources available on creating a developmentally appropriate School Age environment, working with children with special needs and supporting children’s social and emotional learning, including resources for dealing with challenging behaviors.

To receive a list of available titles, or to find out if we have resources that would be useful to you and your staff, contact your Quality Coach or Rhea Simmons, your SACC TA.
Light Table Activity

Here is a great idea from Angie at Otterbein EEC.
If you have ever worked with a child with visual impairments you may be familiar with light boxes. They are used for children and adults with low vision to help provide a sharp contrast for object play, fine motor etc. Traditional light boxes may cost several hundreds of dollars. This one may be less than $10. Angie took a clear plastic “under the bed sweater box”, spray painted the bottom and sides black, drilled a hole for the extension cord and inserted a bundle of Christmas tree lights. Snap the lid on securely and VOILA! One light box! As you can see - we had a great time using clear plastic legos and other toys on top to explore. (Obviously this is done under strict supervision!) There are other ideas on the Infant Toddler Facebook page.
