**STATEMENT**


CITY, NYPD, & MTA NEED TO WORK TOGETHER TO ADDRESS PUBLIC HEALTH CRISIS AT 181ST STREET STATION 

"Used needles littering the subway platform by drug users is not acceptable. This has become an everyday problem for commuters. We must work with the MTA, NYPD, and the Administration to ensure that children, students,  and adult riders are not exposed to the public health danger that these needles bring. The 181 st  Street subway station is one of the most heavily frequented in Washington Heights with five schools in proximity . Our students travel to this station on a daily basis to commute to and from school. It is our responsibility to ensure that our train stations are clean and safe for our riders. I will call for a meeting with stakeholders to address this crisis plaguing the neighborhood and surrounding areas. "

 LA CIUDAD, NYPD, MTA NECESITAN TRABAJAR JUNTOS PARA ABORDAR LA CRISIS DE SALUD PÚBLICA EN LA ESTACIÓN DE TREN DE LA CALLE 181

"Las agujas usadas por drogadictos tiradas en la plataforma del tren no son aceptables. Esto se ha convertido en un problema cotidiano para los viajeros. Necesitamos trabajar con el MTA, NYPD, y la Administración de la Ciudad para asegurar que los niños, estudiantes y adultos no estén expuestos a los peligros de salud pública que traen estas agujas. Esta estación de tren es una de las más frecuentadas en Washington Heights, con cinco escuelas en las proximidades. Nuestros estudiantes utilizan esta estación todos los días camino a la escuela. Es nuestra responsabilidad garantizar que nuestras estaciones estén limpias y seguras para los usuarios. Pediré una reunión con todas las partes interesadas para abordar esta crisis que abate el vecindario y las áreas circundantes."

Ydanis Rodriguez was elected to the New York City Council in 2009. An educator for 13 years, Ydanis co-founded Gregorio Luperon High School and the Washington Heights Health Academy. As a leading voice at the NYC Council, Ydanis has brought changes in transportation, education, economic development, housing, police reform, healthcare, environmental policy, and ensuring low-income families have an equitable path to middle class. As Chairman of the Transportation Committee, he has passed 16 bills improving safety for pedestrians and cyclists. Ydanis led the charge for the Fair Fares to make public transit affordable for all and started Car Free Day NYC to reduce greenhouse gas emissions.
