A Night of Armenian Culture and Grace: ArmFolk Group Shines at Cultural Hall

The Cultural Hall of our beloved church came alive on August 15 with the vibrant sights and sounds of Armenia, as the internationally acclaimed ArmFolk Group graced the stage with a breathtaking performance of traditional music, song, and dance.

From the moment the first note rang out, the audience was captivated. The dancers moved with elegance and precision, their costumes a dazzling reflection of Armenian heritage. The musicians and singers transported everyone to the heart of the homeland, weaving centuries of tradition into a single, unforgettable evening. It was more than a performance; it was a celebration of identity, resilience, and joy.

Before the show began, guests were welcomed with a warm and beautifully arranged reception, setting the tone for the evening’s festivities. Special thanks go to Ani and Raffi supported by a team of volunteers, whose care and attention to detail made the reception a true reflection of Armenian hospitality. Their efforts created a space where community members could gather, connect, and share in anticipation of the performance.

We also extend our heartfelt gratitude to Shoghig, our exceptional Parish Council Chairwoman, whose leadership and dedication continue to elevate every event we host. Her tireless commitment to our parish community is deeply appreciated. In addition, we thank Kevork for documenting the group’s 1st stop in the nation’s capital from arrival to departure. To the host families, we extend an immense gratitude for their gracious hospitality, offering their homes to the group. Last but certainly not least, we extend our heartfelt gratitude to Yerevan Cafe DC for their generous donation of two exquisite cheese platters for everyone to enjoy. This event would not have been successful without the outpouring of support from our community. We exceeded our expectations of attendees. A word of appreciation goes to Aleksan and Christine for their tireless efforts back in Etchmiyazin, preparing the group for a journey of cultural exchange!

As the final applause echoed through the hall, it was clear that this evening would be remembered for years to come—not just for the artistry of ArmFolk, but for the unity and pride it inspired in all who attended. The Feast of Assumption of the Holy Mother-of-God and Name Day of our Church

On the joyous occasion of the Feast of the Assumption, St. Mary Armenian Church celebrated this sacred day with a Divine Liturgy and the traditional Blessing of the Grapes service. This year's celebration, held on August 17, brought together our faithful community to honor the Blessed Virgin Mary, rejoice in her Assumption into heaven, and celebrate the name day of our beloved church.

The day began with a solemn Divine Liturgy, led by H.E. Archbishop Vicken Aykazian, filling the church with prayers and hymns in veneration of the Holy Mother of God. The spiritual atmosphere was further enriched as parishioners participated in the ancient and symbolic Blessing of the Grapes ceremony. This tradition, deeply rooted in the Armenian Church, serves as a prayer for a fruitful harvest and a reminder of the abundant blessings God bestows upon His people.

Following the blessing, the grapes were distributed to the faithful, symbolizing the sweetness of God's grace. The celebration continued with a festive gathering where families and friends enjoyed the traditional Armenian Madagh.

We extend our sincere appreciation to all our parishioners for their generous contributions made in memory or in honor of their loved ones. Your kindness and devotion continue to uplift our community and enrich our shared traditions.

We offer special thanks to the Vartanian Family for their thoughtful dedication in purchasing and beautifully packaging the grapes for the ceremony.

Our heartfelt gratitude also goes to Mr. and Mrs. Avak and Elma Yepremain, for the preparation and offering of the delicious Madagh.

May God continue to shower His blessings upon our community, granting us the strength and grace to serve our church and bring glory to His name.

Shnorhali School Celebrates the Day of Knowledge and Education

On Sunday, August 24th, the corridors and classrooms of Shnorhali School once again came alive with the joyful sounds of laughter, curiosity, and anticipation. It was a day of celebration, marking not only the official opening of the new academic year, but also the renewed commitment of our school community to faith, culture, and learning.

We were beyond excited to welcome back our returning families and to embrace the many new families joining Shnorhali for the first time. The youngest members of our community, our kindergarten students, began their day with creativity and joy, engaging in art, music, and hands-on activities designed to spark imagination and a love of learning. Meanwhile, students in grades 1 - 8 completed placement assessments to ensure they are guided into classrooms that will best support their growth and academic success.

A highlight of the day was when all students gathered in Patarag to receive Holy Communion, hear the inspiring sermon of Fr. Hovsep and be blessed as they embarked on a new academic journey. This spiritual moment reminded us that education at Shnorhali is not only about knowledge, but also about nurturing faith and values that will guide our students throughout their lives.

The day concluded with a parents’ meeting, where the school administration provided a detailed overview of the educational program, a look into the structure of the academic day, as well as the expectations of both students and families. Parents also received important updates on school finances and learned about the new three-tier kindergarten model, a significant step toward enhancing early education at Shnorhali.

The administration warmly congratulates all of our students and families on the start of this new academic year. With God’s blessing, we look forward to another successful and enriching year filled with knowledge, growth, and new adventures.

With Gratitude to Our Visiting Clergy

During the months of July and August, our parish was blessed by the presence and service of several visiting clergy who shepherded our community while Fr. Hovsep Karapetyan was away.

On August 17, we were honored to welcome His Eminence Archbishop Vicken Aykazian, who celebrated the Feast of the Assumption of the Holy Mother of God and the Name Day of our beloved St. Mary Armenian Church.

Earlier in the month, we were also graced by the pastoral care of Rev. Fr. Bedros Kadehjian and Fr. Semeon Odabashian, who prayerfully led us in the celebration of the Holy Badarak.

We extend our heartfelt thanks to our visiting clergy for their faithful service, spiritual guidance, and loving presence among us.
