SHNORHALI SCHOOL LAUNCHED ITS SUMMER FUN PROGRAM
Shnorhali School has launched its 5-week Fun Summer Program. The first fun event was held last Sunday and it was all about Armenian Miniature Art. Art professional Anna Mkhitaryan made a short presentation about Armenian Miniature Art, Armenian bird letters (թռչնագիր), miniature illustrations, and their importance in the Armenian culture and literature. She explained the meaning of miniature paintings and shared pictures of Armenian illuminated manuscripts, where the text was often supplemented with flourishes such as borders and miniature illustrations, all of which illustrate the spiritual and cultural value of Armenian art.
Participants also learned about famous Armenian miniaturist Toros Roslin, after which all the participants drew their own miniature art paintings. Anna Mkhitaryan has worked as a director in the "Planet of colors" Children's and Youth Creative Center and as an art teacher at the "Tsiatsan" Development Center and "Eridith" Gymnasium. Currently, she is teaching our Junior Kindergarten class and works as a ceramic art teacher at the Russian School.

Teen Choir Members Attend Teen Choir Workshop
The first ever Yn Diane Chevian Memorial Choir Workshop was held at St Nersess Seminary July 7-10, 2022. Three of our youth, Siroon Topjian, Maria Stepanyan, and Sevak Stepanyan, attended the event at the seminary. The four-day workshop was directed by Fr. Haroutiun Sabounjian, seminary graduate and pastor of the Armenian Church of the Holy Resurrection in New Britain, CT. Instructors included Fr. Mamigon Kiledjian of the Sacred Music Council and Louise Yardumian, choir director at St. Hagop Armenian Church in Pinellas Park, FL.
Collectively, the participants had a sincere interest in learning the liturgical hymns of our Divine Liturgy and began the session with choral team-building activities, including forming a kazoo chorus to learn how to play popular tunes in unison; “digital bell choirs” to learn to play the hymn “Soorp Asdvadz” using a digital handbell app, and singing in rounds by writing new lyrics to the song “Row row row your boat”. The daily workshops included learning the Yegmalian Badarak in 4-part harmony; singing techniques; how to follow conductor cues; and vocal exercises. There was also a small group “Sharagan Study” during the conference on the hymn Soorp Asdvadz.
When asked what they liked about the Workshop, our teens responded with the following comments:
"I learned a lot about music and badarak."
"We really liked the teachers, especially Louise."
"It was great to make so many friends with other teens and they had a pool table and ping pong!"
"The chapel was really cool, I liked the evening service."
We are so blessed to have such a wonderful choir here at St. Mary and to have so many teen members. When you see a teen reading the Bible, singing in the choir, or serving on the altar, please remember to thank and encourage them!
