STEM Professional Development

Teachers at Ridgeland Elementary School participated in a STEM professional development session with a focus on using STEM resources such as the 3D printer and 3D pens. Teachers learned how to set up the 3D printer, the mechanics of the 3D printer, and various ways the 3D printer and 3D pens can be integrated into daily lessons in the classroom. Teachers were provided online resources to include 3D pen lesson plans. Teachers were able to see a final product printed using their very own 3D printer.

Flying High and Touching the Sky

Students at Ridgeland Elementary School visited the Jasper County School District STEM Bus and learned the importance of drone technology, and how drones are used around the world every day. Students were able to make real world connections and gain an understanding of the various careers that use drones in their daily work. Students learned how meteorologist use drones to assist in tracking weather, how real estate agents use drones to buy and sell properties all over the world, and how our nation's intelligence agencies use drones as a form of surveillance. After discussing the basic foundations of drones and how they are used, students were able to use drones to practice taking off, landing, and completing obstacle courses.

Scholars' Take Field Trip to the Theater!

Monday, January 23, 2023, kicked off the first field trip for our Special Education students and their Unified Partners.

Our scholars took a field trip to the Cinemark Theater in Bluffton. Not only did our scholars receive royal treatment, but students also had an experience of a lifetime. They enjoyed unlimited popcorn, drinks and a movie.

Dr. Anderson had a wonderful time checking on the students, speaking to staff, and observing one scholar use sign language to order chips and utilize math skills to purchase.

A special Thank You to our Unified Partners for making this experience possible. Kudos to Mrs. Melissa Lane, staff, and our transportation superstars for working collaboratively on the behalf of students. We also extend a Thank You to the Cinemark Team for treating our babies with care and love!

Sign up for JCSD's Intersession Academic Intervention Program

Our modified academic calendar features several 'breaks' during the school year. These days, our students and staff can take time away from the classroom to recharge and prepare to go full speed ahead into the spring.

These intersession breaks also provide the opportunity for students to receive help if they are in need of academic intervention.

Please complete the form below if you would like your scholar to attend intersession during the week of February 14-16, 2023. Registration for intersession programs must be submitted by February 1, 2023, to participate in the intersession.
