You'll get to catch up with friends from the Academy and socialize, as well as build your own gingerbread house and even energize it with solar power! 🏡⚡ It's the best of all worlds - old friends (and maybe some new ones), engineering, and a tasty snack. Register early! We'll be sending you everything you need to build your solar gingerbread house! No baking required.

Most of Baltimore's electric infrastructure is located underground, so Baltimore Gas and Electric (BGE) lineworkers aren't always working on overhead lines, but in manholes. Training for this type of work is difficult to reproduce, so BGE has started to implement virtual reality (VR) technology in their training.
The virtual experience starts outside the manhole, and through their headsets, employees see what it looks like to approach an underground installation. Then, they have to check what they are seeing matches the written documents they have been given to make sure they are in the right manhole since every manhole is slightly different. They then use a handset to practice the tasks they will be expected to perform. This type of technology helps people that are visual and hands on learners! 👏

Tessa Wijaya is the co-founder and chief operations officer of Xendit, an Indonesian fintech platform that processes digital payments for businesses in Southeast Asia, like Grab, Wise and Traveloka. As an Indonesian woman running a $1 billion financial technology start-up in Southeast Asia, Tessa is a rare breed! In fintech, women hold 7% of leadership positions. But Wijaya said she is hoping that will change by showing more women and girls they can follow the path less traveled. 👏

Zuwena was the only girl in her high school science class, now she's helping fight COVID-19! |

Zuwena Richardson always wanted to be a scientist. But growing up on St Maarten, a Dutch-Caribbean island with a population of about 40,000, it wasn't an obvious career choice. In high school, Zuwena, who is now 34, was the only girl in her science class.
"I just knew I liked science. I had friends who were like, 'Why don't you do something else?'" she says. It was the start of a journey that took Zuwena from the Caribbean to Europe and eventually Australia. This year, Zuwena became Dr. Richardson after completing her PhD on the HIV virus!

A 2020 study found while women comprise 28.8% of the U.S. tech workforce, Latinas hold a mere 2% of jobs in STEM. Latinas in Tech, professional passionate about closing the gap, gave some solutions to this problem. Heather Conneely, the U.S. Business Lead at Facebook, thinks that getting more Latinas in tech needs to start from inside companies. “The onus has to change. This is not just a chief diversity officer’s role or the role of HR,” said Heather. “To be able to grow and retain diverse candidates—it’s everyone’s role.”

NASA released its first digital graphic novel featuring the first woman to walk on the moon, allowing readers to explore space through interactive experiences. First Woman: NASA's Promise for Humanity, tells the tale of Callie Rodriguez, the first woman to explore the Moon. While Callie is a fictional character, the first female astronaut and person of color will soon set foot on the Moon – a historic milestone and part of upcoming NASA missions! 👩🚀 Through a series of graphic novels and digital platforms, First Woman aims to capture attention and unite the next generation of explorers who will return to the Moon.
First Woman graphic novels are XR (VR and AR) enabled! Download the app to walk through life-size scenes from the graphic novel and explore NASA's highlighted technologies, which helped Callie, and will help real astronauts, sustain life on the Moon.

The Coolidge Scholarship is an annually awarded full-ride scholarship that covers a student’s tuition, room, board, and expenses for four years of undergraduate study. This one-of-a-kind scholarship may be used at any accredited college or university in the U.S.! Students apply for the Coolidge Scholarship during their junior year of high school, and application are open now!
