Resource Picks of the Month
Grades K-2: Be a Biodiversity Detective
Students investigate biodiversity of wildlife in their backyard (schoolyard) by selecting and mapping out areas they expect to be high in biodiversity in part one. Part two uses a larger area to make observations about the area by using biodiversity clues.
SDG 14: Life Below Water
Grades 3-5: Make Space for Nature: Why Biodiversity is Key to Achieving the Global Goals
This resource includes a four-part introductory lesson plan that looks at how the planet's biodiversity impacts the achievement of the Global Goals. Students learn about the threats posed by biodiversity loss to people and the planet and how to take action to halt biodiversity loss.
SDG 14: Life Below Water and SDG 15: Life on Land
Grades 6-8: Water & Biodiversity: Cleaning Up our Act
This resource is intended to raise awareness of the impact humans have had on aquatic ecosystems. Moreover, they are intended to make students aware of the conservation efforts that are ongoing in their communities, and to inspire hope and encourage action towards the protection of our critically important freshwater resources.
SDG 6: Clean Eater & Sanitation and SDG 12: Responsible Consumption & Production
Grades 9-12: Interconnected
In this simulation game, students learn about the importance of Earth’s ecosystems, resources, and our duty as global citizens to protect it. Students participate in a board game modelled after Sustainable Development Goal 15, Life on Land. Throughout the game, students are given the opportunity to make individual decisions that impact the land, its species, and humanity’s future needs with their given monetary resources. The lesson focuses on biodiversity, animal extinction, forest management, and freshwater ecosystems.
