Sunday, May 24, 2026 • (above: "little fish," Maho Bay, St. John, USVI, l-r: my daughter, Livia, proprietor of "little fish," Amanda, Me) • I got to take my daughter, Livia, a junior at Ann Arbor Skyline High School, to "Fisherman's Reef," St. Thomas, U.S. Virgin Islands over the Memorial Weekend. Above was our best day, where we ferried from Red Hook, St. Thomas, to Cruze Bay, St. John, rented a car, toured the island, and settled on Maho Bay, the beach we found the most appealing. There, we met new friends, like Amanda (middle) and her husband, Kendall. She'd worked two jobs on St. John, including running the above, "little fish," till just eighteen days prior to our meeting, when she learned that everyone there had quit. She took over and brought her step-son and future daughter-in-law there from Brooklyn (NYC) just days before we met them. We also took her dinner recommendation for recent Venezuelan transplant, Miguel's, restaurant, "Johnny Lime's" in Coral Bay, a town we hadn't yet seen. It was a no-brainer. We met Miguel and his not-quite-two-year-old daughter, Maya, at the gate to the outdoor seating, and had a great time!
