Zimmer America Recycling Solution and its partner, Germany based STF Group successfully installed a 1.1 tons/hr (2,400 lbs/hr) PET Bottle Washing and Recycling Plant in Haiti, the virtual way.
STF Group and Lavergne Group managed to pull off their first ever virtual line installation. This was done via daily online video conferences. It was made possible by a strong local technical support team on the customer side in Haiti and simple and effective line and machine engineering by STF Group. As far as we know, this is the first time this has been made possible in the plastics recycling industry, but will certainly not be the last time.

The line is part of a broad effort to reduce ocean plastic. The project is led by HP (Hewlett-Packard) who states in the company’s own press release: “HP invested $2 million in a new plastic washing line in Haiti that produces clean, high-quality recycled plastic for use in HP premium products, […] and also opens up new markets for the Haiti team. This investment into a self-reliant ocean-bound plastic supply chain continues HP’s longstanding commitment to diverting ocean-bound plastic […] while providing income and education opportunities locally. As of today, the washing line is fully functioning, thanks to the combined efforts and deep collaboration with Lavergne (our plastics transformer), ECSSA (our local Haiti recycler) and STF Group (the manufacturer of the washing line).”
