Racer ducks now on sale for May 21 Duck Derby

The Texas City Independent School District Foundation for the Future has a lot to quack about this spring as they gear up for the third Youthfest and Duck Derby on Saturday, May 21, 2011.
The Foundation is now selling ducks to raise funds to benefit teachers and students in the Texas City Independent School District. One lucky duck is worth a chance to win a new Ford car or truck valued at $50,000 sponsored by Evergreen Industrial Services.
The Duck Derby will have yellow rubber ducks racing down Sting Creek, the waterway located next to the Simpson Education Support Center. There are 5,000 ducks up for adoption at $5 each. Buyers can purchase individual ducks or they can choose to purchase a Quack Pack for $25, in which they will receive 6 adopted duck racers, one junior duck toy and savings coupons for McDonald's.
In order to win the Ford vehicle, the adopted duck must match the pre-selected winning number and has to cross the finish line first. However, those who adopt a duck will have the opportunity to win other prizes such as a $2,500 Visa gift card, an iPad 2 plus 1 year of service with Verizon, $500 Macy's gift card, a cooler filled with barbecue meats and $250 Kroger gift card, $400 Academy gift card, his and her bikes, $250 Balfour gift certificate and movie basket, Astro's four-pack of tickets behind the Astros' dugout, boy's and girl's bikes.
In addition to the Duck Derby, Texas City ISD choirs and bands will be performing during the Youthfest. The event begins at 11 a.m. and concludes at 4 p.m. The duck launch will be at 3 p.m.
"This is going to be a great event for the whole family," said TCISD Foundation Executive Director Deborah Laine. "There will be good food, great entertainment, plenty of fun activities and unbelievable prizes."
Adoption certificates are available at the TCISD Foundation for the Future office, located at the district's Simpson Education Support Center, 1700 Ninth Avenue North. Some of the other sales locations include: Cook Ford - Duck Headquarters, Heights Elementary, Kohfeldt Elementary, Northside Elementary, Roosevelt-Wilson Elementary, Levi Fry Intermediate, Benny's Liquor, Dental Cosmetic Center - Bay Area (Dr. John Hackbarth), From the Heart Florist, Mainland Tool, Schlotzky's, Tangles Salon, Texas City Chiropractic Clinic, Texas City's City Hall, Texas First Bank and UTMB Texas City.
Corporations and organizations can purchase a large rubber duck for $250 to enter the "Duckorator" contest or to enter a swimmer in the Corporate Duck Race.
"With the help of our major sponsors BP, Valero, Dow Evergreen and Mainland Tool, all of our students, our teachers and staff and the community, the Youthfest and Duck Derby is becoming a wonderful event that Texas City can look forward to every year," said Laine.
Duck adopters need not attend the event or even live in the area. Youth organizations can reserve booth space at the event. Download the application and return it by May 9. For more information about the Duck Derby or contests and to adopt ducks, contact Deborah Laine at 409-916-0108. |
