iPads are being integrated into classes
This week, students in Elizabeth Morris' class at Levi Fry will be working on their last project: Create Your Own Country/Government. They have the entire class period each day to work and use the new National Geographic atlases and iPads for their research. The TCISD Foundation for the Future provided the atlases and another District grant provided the iPads. This project will require them to think critically about what it takes to build and organize the foundations of a country. It also tests their skills at research, critical thinking, writing, and organization. The project will force them to confront and challenge their own philosophies while expressing their own creativity. Students have the opportunity to create and potentially rule their own country after researching an actual country in the world.

Sting-made Creations make great gifts
"Sting-made Creations" is a business venture of the Special Education Students at Texas City High School. Students design and create products to sell to TCISD staff and the community. Through this project, students develop employment skills as well as address a variety of functional and life skills goals. This is achieved while having fun and creating a product the students can really be proud of. Some of the products our students make are: decorative magnets, clipboards, notepads, buttons, classroom posters, die-cut visual aids, awards and plaques. Their goal is to become a self-sustaining program by using revenues to purchase more supplies and to invest back into their business with new equipment purchases.
The students have now started printing Tshirts. If you are interested in a "Keep Calm and Sting On" shirt, download the order form and contact
Amy Lozano.

Heart of Texas field trip a success
Blocker Middle School took to the road this spring on their annual Heart of Texas field trip. History teacher Michael Sanchez said the Heart of Texas Tour takes a different approach to student travel. Experiencing knowledge hands-on can ignite a passion to learn. With this in mind BMS created a tour of Texas that focuses on at-risk students from low socio-economic families. About 70% of the participants had never left Galveston County. Some of the locations they visited included the Alamo, the State Capitol, Natural Bridge Caverns and a variety of other museums and educational sites. Teacher sponsors were Melissa Patrick, Michael Sanchez, Amy Taber and assistant principal Thad Spears.
