18 TCHS art students advance to Area

By Jennifer Massie, TCHS art teacher

The Texas City High School Art Department participated in the Visual Art Scholastic Event (VASE) competition recently for the first time. This was everyone's first experience in this competition and we were really surprised by the magnitude of event, students and their artwork that had been brought in. Our students were very inspired by the pieces and after having to speak with a juror, they felt a sense of pride and accomplishment! There were a total of 18 students that advanced to Area, which was a great accomplishment and those pieces were put in the VASE gallery for everyone to look at. They worked really hard and have already started talking about what to do for next year! We are so excited about all of the great things happening within our department. It makes it an exciting place to be!
