DIOCESE OF SAN DIEGO

Pastoral Center Communication to Priests, Deacons, Parish Offices
________________________________________________________

March 22, 2022

Earlier this week, Pope Francis asked all of the bishops of the world to gather with their priests in these days of war and suffering in Ukraine, to join in the consecration of Ukraine, Russia and the whole world to the Immaculate Heart of Mary. This afternoon during the meeting of the priests of the Diocese of San Diego for the Synodal process, I joined with Bishops Dolan and Bejarano and the priests of our Diocese in reciting the prayer of Consecration that our Holy Father will be offering this Friday, March 25th.

I would ask all of the parishes of the Diocese of San Diego to gather in prayer sometime on this Friday morning to unite with Pope Francis in this act of Consecration, either after their daily Mass or during the time of the Consecration in Rome, which will be at 10:30 a.m. Pacific time.

I am enclosing for you the Holy Father's letter to the bishops of the world in English and Spanish, as well as the Act of Consecration in both languages.

I pray that this might be an ecclesial action which promotes peace, the conversion of the world, and devotion to our Blessed Mother.

Bishop McElroy

April is Child Abuse Prevention month: This annual observance is dedicated to raising awareness and preventing child abuse. One in four children have experienced abuse or neglect at some point in their lives. Children who experience abuse or neglect can suffer from physical, psychological, and behavioral issues. A National Institute of Justice Study found that abused or neglected children are 59% more likely to be arrested as a juvenile, 28% more likely to be arrested as an adult, and 30% more likely to commit a violent crime. Individuals and parishes are encouraged to rededicate themselves to being supportive of families, play an active role in preventing child abuse and neglect, and promoting child and family well-being. All are invited to attend the Child Abuse Prevention Workshop and Mass to be held at St. James Church, Solana Beach on April 2. Information on local support resources will be available at the event. See insert for more details. Please keep all victim/survivors of abuse in your prayers this month, especially those abused as children.
