Coronavirus UPDATE

Diocesan Directives in Light of the Government Directives
Regarding the Coronavirus

  1. Bishop McElroy on behalf of the Diocese has issued these directives in the Church’s effort to do our part along with the rest of society in keeping as many people as possible healthy and safe in light of the Coronavirus:

  • Effective Monday morning, March 16, there will be no Weekend or Daily Masses until further notice. All of these Diocesan and Parish Directives are open-ended with no ending date, and will be evaluated regularly as we move into the future.

  • All Catholics in the Diocese of San Diego are dispensed from the obligation to attend Sunday Mass during the coming weeks.

  • All Parish and Diocesan Schools and Religious Education Programs will be suspended effective this Monday, March 16.

  • All Lenten Communal Penance Services in the Diocese are cancelled.

  • Weddings, Funerals, and Quinceañeras are allowed.

  • The Diocese will be providing video-streamed Sunday Masses celebrated by Priests and Bishops of our Diocese in English, Spanish, and Vietnamese every week. These celebrations will be linked to the Diocesan Website. Click Here

2. Parish Directives in Light of the Diocesan Directives:

  • After this Weekend, all Sunday and Weekday Masses are suspended until further notice.

  • As is our Tradition, our Church is open for private prayer and visits to the Blessed Sacrament from 7:00am to 7:00pm, seven days a week. You are encouraged to come in during those times and pray privately. Please think about the Church's long-held tradition of Spiritual Communion in times of difficulty and unforeseen circumstances. Although you are not physically receiving Communion, your desire to receive Communion is Spiritual Communion and is as much the Real Presence as if you were receiving the elements of Bread and Wine that become the Body and Blood of Christ.

  • Our Parish Retreat led by Fr. Jim Sichko which was to begin this weekend has been cancelled and will be rescheduled for the future.

  • Our Parish Lenten Communal Penance Service, which was to be held next Monday, March 23, has been cancelled.

  • All Faith Formation Classes have been suspended, as well as Bible Study and the RCIA.

  • All other Parish Sessions, Classes, Gatherings, and Events are cancelled as well.

  • At the request of the Assisted Living Facilities and the Hospitals, our Extraordinary Ministers of the Eucharist will not be making their visits to these facilities.

  • Emergency calls for Anointing of the Sick or Last Rites will still be available. Just call the Parish Office as you normally would.

  • Individual Confessions will still be available at the regularly scheduled time on Saturdays from 3:30pm to 4:30pm. Office appointments for Confession can also be made.

  • The Parish Office will continue to remain open and appointments can be made for regular Parish business.

  • We are presently looking into the possibility of video-streaming Masses from our Parish that would be available on our Parish Website. Details will be forthcoming in the days ahead.

  • This weekend at all of our Masses, instead of the regular General Intercessions, there is a prayer, “A Prayer Amid an Epidemic,” that we will pray together for God’s help and strength during these difficult days. After Mass, you are invited to take your Worship Aid home with you. We have a fresh set of Worship Aids for each Mass this weekend. Take time to pray this prayer together, individually or as a family, on a daily basis. Click Here to download prayer.

  • Also please remember that during these days, the Parish continues to be responsible for all our expenses and bills. Keep us in mind. This may also be an opportunity for you, if you are not giving electronically, to consider doing so. Information can be found on our Parish Website (www.stmoside.org/online-giving) and you can also call Ron Briseno, our Business Manager, for more information (760-758-4100 x104).

  • Instead of a homily this weekend, Bishop McElroy’s letter to the People of the Diocese will be read. Please reflect upon his words…The challenges of these days can be, if we approach this trusting in God, opportunities for spiritual growth and the deepening of our faith.

  • All the Diocesan Directives, the Parish Directives and the letter from our Bishop will be sent to everyone on our Parish email list and will also be available on our Parish Website.

  • I now ask all of you: Are you willing to accept the challenges of these days with faith and trust in God and be willing to accept the accommodations needed with a gentle and positive spirit? I hope the Assembly will give me a hearty “AMEN!”

If you know Parishioners who do not have access to email, please share this information with them. Thank you!
