There's a lot going on with U.S. Masters Swimming right now. Here's what you need to know about the annual meeting, award nominations, delegate entitlements, and much more.

Ed Tsuzuki Receives RJA Award
USMS's top award recognizes decades of service
The  Capt. Ransom J. Arthur M.D. Award  is U.S. Masters Swimming's highest honor, given to the volunteer who does the most to further the objectives of Masters Swimming. This year, the award went to  Ed Tsuzuki  of Somerset County YMCA Masters for his many years of service and numerous contributions to our organization. More information on everything he's done can be found on the website. Congratulations, Ed, and thank you for your service! 
Annual Meeting Update
Get ready to head to Jacksonville in September
The United States Aquatic Sports Convention will be held at the Hyatt Regency Jacksonville Riverfront in Jacksonville, Fla., from Sept. 26-30. Registration forms, travel, shuttle, and tourist information are all available on the USAS website
USMS's annual meeting begins on Sept. 26. The annual meeting page at usms.org contains the schedule. Other information will be posted soon.
Delegate Registration: Everyone attending or presenting at any meeting MUST be registered for the convention. Online registration  is open and available for individuals who prefer to pay by credit card, and you can register as many attendees as you like during the session. For those who prefer to register by mail/check, please use the delegate registration form and mail it with your check. For LMSCs with five or more attendees, you can opt to fill out the  group registration form (and pay with just one check).
Full Convention Registration:
Postmarked by Sept. 4: $180
Postmarked by Sept. 5 or later: $210
Partial Convention Registration:
One Day: $75
Two Day: $140
Hotel Reservations: Hotel information can be found on the USAS website . You are responsible for making your hotel reservations. The convention room rate is $139/night plus tax. You can also call to make reservations (1-888-421-1442). The room block closes after Aug. 20 or when it fills, whichever happens first. Once a reservation is made, there is a non-refundable one-night cancellation charge. 
Air Transportation

Jacksonville International Airport (JAX) (15 miles)
Land Transportation

SuperShuttle: It's offering discounted shuttle transportation for the convention ($2 off a one-way trip and $5 off a roundtrip). They also offer a discount if you use their ExecuCar transportation option. When you make your reservation, enter the discount code  TF2HB. If you require special assistance, please call 1-800 BLUE VAN (800-258-3826).

East Coast Transportation: Their drivers meet you inside the airport and can take you to the Hyatt. To make a reservation with East Coast Transportation, click on reservations.

Rental Cars: Hertz is offering a discount on car rentals for the convention. Go to the USAS-HERTZ website to make your reservation - the discount code is auto-populated. If you go to Hertz through another means, the discount code is CV02RH0014.

Driving Directions: Driving directions can be obtained by using the following address:  225 East Coastline Drive Jacksonville, Florida 32202.
Parking:  Self-park is $8/day, valet parking is $15/day for delegates and volunteers.
Internet in Sleeping Rooms: Complimentary internet is included in guest rooms ($4.95 per day for upgraded bandwidth) .
Certification Table: The certification table will be open on Wednesday 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. (vendor area), Thursday 7 a.m. to 7:45 a.m. (vendor area), and Thursday 9:15 a.m. to 9:45 a.m. (House of Delegates Room). If you're unable to make those times, please find Mary Hull from Thursday afternoon through Saturday.

LMSC Chairs: Please submit the names and contact information for your delegates ASAP to Jessica Porter .
Please send delegate-at-large requests to president Patty Miller and copy Jessica Porter by July 15. Appointments will be made by the president on July 20.
Chairs of Finance, Legislation, Long Distance, and Rules Committees: Please contact your committee members and report to  Jessica Porter  if there are any members from your committees who will not be attending the annual meeting.
Annual Meeting Packet
Please note these important deadlines

July 15: Committee chairs and special appointments send their annual reports to their vice presidents using the USMS committee report template . Those who will be having a meeting at the annual meeting also send their agendas.
July 31: Vice presidents send their committees' annual reports and agendas to Jessica Porter.  Members of the Executive Committee also submit their annual reports.
Aug. 1: All proposed rule or code changes from Rules, Long Distance, and Legislation Committees are due to Jessica Porter  from respective committee chairs for inclusion in annual meeting packet.
Aug. 1: Election Committee submits election information to Jessica Porter for  inclusion in annual meeting packet.
Aug. 31: Annual meeting packets are posted on the USMS website  and link emailed to all delegates.
Proposed Legislation, Rules, and Long Distance Committees Rule Changes Due June 10
Don't miss this important deadline
Proposed changes to the Code of Regulations can be submitted to the Legislation Committee for Organizing Principles and Parts 2, 4, 5, and 6. Changes to Part 1 and the Glossary can be submitted to the Rules Committee and changes to Part 3 can be submitted to the Long Distance Committee .
See the annual meeting section of the Guide to Operations for detailed instructions and the form for submitting proposed legislation changes. Proposed legislation changes are due June 10.
SCY Top 10 Submissions Due
It's time to submit SCY Top 10s!
SCY Top 10 tabulations (both individual and relay swims) are due to  Mary Beth Windrath , National Swims Administrator, by  June 30 . Late submissions will not be accepted. Instructions can be found in the  USMS Records and Tabulation Document , located in the  Guide to Operations.

If your LMSC has elected any new officers, please remember to notify us  of these changes. We need this information to be sure the right individuals are receiving information in a timely manner during their tenure.

Elections Deadline Extended
Nominations open for Breadbasket and Northwest Zones
USMS Elections
In accordance with our Election Operating Guidelines, the USMS Board of Directors has authorized an extended special nomination period from  May 9 through May 31 for the Breadbasket and Northwest Zones, which have no candidate for this year's at-large directors elections; therefore, the Elections Committee is soliciting nominations for these positions.

In addition, we will accept floor nominations for all at-large director positions at convention during designated HOD meetings; however, all eligible candidates must submit proper documentation to be slated. The committee will follow up in a subsequent report to state which meetings(s) is/are eligible.

Mark your calendars for the next peer-to-peer teleconference call. 
  • Recognition & Awards: July 10 at 5:30 p.m. PT | 8:30 p.m. ET
  • Volunteers: August 14 at 5:30 p.m. PT | 8:30 p.m. ET
Teleconferences will each take approximately 1 hour. Email invitations are sent to those in each role in advance with dial-in information. Contact the  LMSC Development Committee for more information.
The goal of these facilitated calls is to provide an opportunity for you to converse with your peers, pose questions, get answers, discuss challenges, and share successes related to your LMSC volunteer role. In turn, the LMSC Development Committee can use the information shared to help build a repository of best practices for each of our volunteer positions.
Open Water Referee Certification
We have a great opportunity for you to get trained and certified as an open water referee

April is Adult Learn-to-Swim Month
Thank you for participating!
More than 1,000 people took lessons through USMS's  April is Adult Learn-to-Swim Month programs nationwide last month, and we couldn't be prouder. Thank you to the nearly 400 volunteers who helped to make so many adults in their communities safer and happier around the water. We counted nearly 50 April programs, but if you think we might have missed yours, please be in touch

And remember, it's grant season. If a USMS Swimming Saves Lives Foundation grant could help you take your April program to the next level, don't miss the July 31 deadline to apply for 2019 program funds.
