Dear STREB Community,

Today marks the one-year anniversary from when we closed our doors at the beginning of the pandemic. At the time, we announced that we would be closed for a couple of weeks. Two has now turned to fifty two, and we can't help but take a deep breath and reflect with humility on the past year. We mourn the tragedies of lives lost—to Covid and police brutality; to livelihoods derailed—financially and emotionally; and to the ripples of trauma created from these crises—individually and collectively. We are grateful to our community for generously supporting us, bolstering our morale, and for joining us on this journey as we pivoted, experimented, learned, succeeded, planned, failed, adjusted, deconstructed, and re-invented what we do and how we do it again and again. Even as we begin to physically re-open, we do so with our eyes wide open to the lessons of this past last year, and move forward with intention and gratitude, and, as always, with resilience, risk and a spirit of exploration, curiosity and empowerment.
Navigating the Year Through Action.
FROM ELIZABETH STREB and the ARCHIVES...

We're continuing to curate expanded versions of the clips we've been sharing on social media. Visit our YouTube Channel Playlists to find a treasure trove of videos, interviews and more. Here are two recent videos featuring Elizabeth Streb as she reflects on two pieces from the archives that have recently re-inspired her, LINE and ORBIT:
CHECKING IN WITH OUR ACTION HERO ALUMS...
Hope Clark, Former Associate Artistic Director and Action Hero, 1991-1998, recently joined us for our DANGER: EVERYDAY OBJECTS Q&A event where she spoke about her experience with the Company in LINK and the genesis of transitional pieces. Hope joined STREB (then Ringside, Inc.) in 1991, and she and Christopher Batenhorst created KidAction’s first dance, ‘Kid Wall’ at the Brooklyn Anchorage Residency. She became Associate Artistic Director in 1994. She now works in local government in Maryland and has founded Wheelbarrow Productions Inc. to create social change and economic opportunities through the arts.
