NEWS FROM MOOR HALL STUDIO

Last Tuesday on the 22nd I gave a half-day workshop to some delightful ladies in the nearby small town of Church Stretton. Of course as many of you will know that teach, planning for a half day, I day, 2 days or more is all much the same, but after months of no bookings I was thrilled to be asked........and thrilled to be amongst such hungry students wanting to learn.

I am sitting here in my studio beside a poster from the RA (The Royal Academy) which boldly and very clearly states 'IMAGINATION IS WORTH TEACHING'. and as a sub-line ART IS A SERIOUS SUBJECT

Well it is a serious subject and as we have seen less and less happening in schools and colleges, many adult eductaion classes closing, no further education classes, less students going onto to university ....we must do something about this. To quote the RA:

"Art teaches children to question. It wakes up imaginations. It builds confidence. It encourages children to see the world differently and to make their mark.

But making and studying art in our classrooms is getting harder and harder. A curriculum that focuses on core subjects at the expense of everything else means art is being sidelined in our schools.

It’s a short-sighted society that sees art as a ‘low value’ subject. Bring it back to our classrooms."

THIS IS JUST ONE OF THE REASONS WHY I WELCOMED THIS BOOKING. EVERYONE DESERVES THE RIGHT TO BE CREATIVE. IT ISN'T JUST LEISURE IT IS A LIFE SKILL WHICH THAT NEEDS TO BE NUTURED AND NOURISHED.
