STUDENTS CAN WIN THE MIDTERMS!
|
|
There is one time of year better than any other for registering new voters – and it starts right now. Back-to-school!
If you’ve ever registered voters on a college campus during the first days, week, or even month of back-to-school, you know: it’s like the Burning Man of voter registration. You just look at someone funny, and they get registered. A single zealous volunteer can wind up registering 20 or 30 new voters!
These are also boom days for digital voter registration. And that’s why we’re launching a new, game-changing project called Rush Week for Democracy – that has the potential to win elections across the country.
The core of this project is geofencing. We’re kicking off the project by digitally fencing off the campuses of the four biggest HBCUs in Georgia – that means for about 3 days, any student who physically sets foot on campus will get an ad from us on their social media. An ad that urges them to elect Governor Stacey Abrams and Senator Rev. Warnock, and takes them directly to the official voter registration page for Georgia.
We’ve tested this many times, and it’s been a consistent success. On average it costs us about 81 cents a click. Which means every $10 you donate gets 12 more students to click on our registration link. $100 would get 120 students to click through!
We would love to expand this program to as many HBCUs and other colleges as possible across our 9 swing states! We have the strategy. We have the know-how. The only thing we’re missing is the funding. If you can help, donate HERE.
And if you can’t donate, but can volunteer, join a voter drive (in Volunteer Ops below) or lead your own! (Find all you need to do that HERE.)
If you have a rich aunt, friend or lottery-winning neighbor, now’s the time to ask them to fund Rush Week for Democracy – a project that just might win the midterms. These next two and a half months will decide the fate of our democracy. Make ‘em count!

OFFICIAL: BLUE VOTER GUIDE IS A FIELD TEAM 6 PROJECT! THAT'S HUUUUGE FOR GOTV!
The amount of homework we all need to do to cast our vote responsibly can sometimes feel overwhelming. That’s doubly true for young, infrequent or new voters (like the ones we help register). Biden over Tr*mp? That’s a no-brainer! But how about that County Supervisor? Or those candidates for District Court judge? Or these confusingly worded ballot propositions?
Now you can find the answers you need with Field Team 6's amazing new Blue Voter Guide – and turn your sample ballot into a simple ballot! It’s a new online tool that makes voting easy by clearly showing the endorsements of a wide range of progressive organizations. BVG will include candidates running in the 100 most-populated cities in the U.S. and overlapping counties, plus all federal and statewide elections, including ballot measures, and state legislators in every district, nationwide.
Our data team is working now to have the guide populated with endorsers by September 9, so it’s ready for the November midterms. Right now, Blue Voter Guide shows endorsers in CA, NV, and TX (check it out HERE).
Soon, if you live in any of our swing states, AZ, CA, GA, FL, NC, NV, PA, TX or WI, just enter your address and your ballot appears — with blue endorsements added to candidates, ballot measures, and judges. Mark your choices and Blue Voter Guide creates a helpful list of your selections that you can print and take with you to the polling place... or the cozy nook where you fill out your mail-in ballot. You can keep everything private... or email to friends, family, or anyone else... even share on social media.
Click HERE for a brief video on just how this magical new tool works!
|
|
As we roll out, we’ll be partnering with every other progressive organization we can find to promote the guide so that progressives voters in swing states have an easier time voting! What a goal! We must be Democrats! Are you in a battleground state and connected with activists there? Want to become a Blue Voter Guide Ambassador? Contact Wayne Liebman HERE. And if you’d like to help with funding this amazing project, please click HERE. Order a yard sign to help spread the BVG word HERE!
We register Democrats to save the world. Let's make sure all of those new Democrats (and every other progressive voter we can reach) has the tools to easily vote up and down their entire ballot!

TUESDAY, AUGUST 23:
CALIFORNIA TEXTING
California includes so many swing districts that it could easily determine which party controls the House. So we have partnered with two wonderful activist organizations to text bank into six of the most crucial battleground districts. Fearless Action is a youth-led group helping to register and turn out new (and young) Democrats, and Swing Left West Valley has adopted CA-27 and is working to flip it back to blue with canvassing, phonebanking, letters/postcards and textbanking. Thanks to both!
RSVP HERE for this juicy, superfast textbank on Tuesday, August 23 from 10a PT.

TEXT ARCADES ARE BACK!
Here's the thing: we have the contacts, but not the cash, to text all the eligible voters who are likely Democrats.
Hence, the Text Arcade: a super-fast text bank that costs $25 a ticket, where 100% of your ticket price goes to funding this text bank. Plus, we cap attendance to make sure everyone has enough texts to send – so you definitely get your money's worth.
With the midterms fast approaching and control of Congress—and therefore the fate of democracy—at stake, this is the time to go all in with Text Arcade Tuesdays. Every Tuesday from August 30 to September 13 (and maybe beyond) we'll be hosting Text Arcades to text likely Democrats in swing states that will make the difference.
Here's the line-up so far:
Arizona Arcade — Tuesday, August 30 at 3p PT / 6p ET
Florida Arcade — Tuesday, September 6 at 3p PT / 6p ET
Georgia Arcade — Tuesday, September 13 at 3p PT / 6p ET

STRATEGY BRIEFING
Only two months out from the November midterms, we'll lay out our updated, innovative plan for exactly how we can save the Senate – the House – and the democracy.

Now is the time to join us on the road to victory! Get the latest metrics on our effectiveness, and learn all the fun, creative ways we’ve devised to register new Democrats in the weeks before November 8th. There's nothin' like a deadline! SATURDAY, AUGUST 20:
CHRISTY SMITH VOTER OUTREACH DAY OF ACTION
Field Team 6 and the Out of Many, One Coalition are holding a Voter Outreach Day of Action in Antelope Valley on Saturday, August 20 from 9a-12p PT.
Carpool up to this picturesque slice of Southern California to talk with voters about the issues they care about most:
• Reproductive Freedom
• Environmental Justice
• Quality Healthcare Affordability and Access for All
• Quality Public Education for All
• Investing in Working Families
• Freedom from Gun Violence
These are all issues that Christy Smith will fight for on behalf of the people of Antelope Valley, and all of CD27, because she cares about improving their lives.
You know who doesn't? Christy's opponent, Mike Garcia, the fake moderate Republican (lol) who went full MAGA once in office, declaring his love of Trump, guns and border walls. He advocates repealing the ACA, 'natch, has an A rating from Gun Owners of America (a group that makes the NRA look tame), and he voted for overturning the 2020 election. So... yeah.
Antelope Valley leans blue – all it will take for Christy to send The Notorious B.M.G. (Bloviating Mike Garcia) packing is for progressives to show up on Election Day. And that's where we can help. So sign up HERE, grab some sunscreen and join the fun!

VOLUNTEER SHOUTOUT... IT'S A SISTER ACT:
DEBBIE BARLES & APRIL WILSON!
|
|
This week, we’re lighting the candles of appreciation in honor of two sister resisters, Debbie Barles and April Wilson from Riverside, CA, who retired from their careers and now work tirelessly as activists.
They began volunteering for Hillary Clinton and were, of course, devastated after the loss. One couldn’t stop crying, the other stopped eating, aka The Tr*mp Diet. But after weeks of depression, they decided getting active was the only way to stay sane.
First up was attending the inspiring Women’s March in DC, then joining groups like Indivisible, Swing Left, Sister District and eventually Field Team 6, where they learned how to approach and register people to vote, and how to encourage them to actually get out and vote.
By the time 2018 rolled around, they'd registered over 1200 people. “We canvassed with a dedicated group of Pasadena women, driving to OC weekly, many times twice a week to register voters at the community colleges and to canvass. We worked to get other like-minded people to join us by driving them to Orange County, buying their lunch and having them go to doors with us to help them gain confidence. We were especially proud that we were part of a legion of canvassers who helped to turn Orange County blue.”
They’ve traveled all over to canvass, from Phoenix to Central California to the high desert. After the 2020 election, they went to Las Vegas to ballot cure—notifying Democratic voters that their signature was rejected and helping them correct it so their ballot would count.
Now, in addition to canvassing, they write hundreds, if not thousands, of postcards and donate money to Field Team 6 and select candidates.
“We feel so fortunate to have each other to do this important work. We know talking to potential voters and registered voters face-to-face is the most effective means of change. We keep hearing the Democrats will not keep the House." They scoff in the face of such predictions. "Not if we have anything to do with it!”
Debbie and April, we salute your familial bond, your dedication, passion and boundless energy, and look forward to registering many, many more voters with you in 2022.
|
|
Be like Debbie and April! We're looking for volunteers with a little time and almost any skill to share. Find all of our current behind-the-scenes needs, or pleasantly surprise us HERE.
We have a real need right now for beta-testers for our Blue Voter Guide. We want BVG to be as smooth as possible when we roll it out en masse to enthusiastic progressive voters! So come, try it out, share your confusion or complements and make it better!
We're also still looking for volunteers who are Wordpress and CSS-savvy.
If any of the above sounds like something you could help with – click HERE!
