Meet Deb Newberry

Why I am on the SU4C Board

About Deb Newberry

I have been on the board of Sails Up 4 Cancer (SU4C) for several years. I feel strongly about the work we do. We make a difference when things get difficult for people in the community we support. My work in a professional capacity in cancer research has taught me a lot about this disease and the affect it has on patient lives. Very few of us have been untouched by cancer these days, even if not directly, we have seen the struggles, and courage, of family members or close friends.

Being on the board of SU4C I feel that I make a contribution to the community. It provides me with a sense personal fulfillment to make a meaningful impact on the lives of others. It has given me an opportunity for making connections and raising awareness with others in the community.

I am proud to be on the Sails Up Board; I read the stories of those applying for the Spinnaker Fund (a Sails Up grant) and I know my time is well spent helping patients undergoing treatment. I have had the honor of meeting some of the grant recipients. Many thanks to them for sharing their stories and for being an inspiration.
