Letter from the Principal

Dear SUA Families,

We will be celebrating the All Saints' Day Mass on Friday, November 1. Our All Saints' Day Mass will be dedicated to Carly Kudzia, our freshman who recently passed away from complications of Progeria. Carly came to St. Ursula Academy in the 8th Grade and in her brief time with us, touched all of our hearts. Her infectious positivity, sharp wit, and remarkable courage have left an indelible mark on all of us.

Carly's freshman classmates will process into Mass filling baskets with flowers to represent the love and memories shared with Carly. Carly was an inspiration to all of us; we were blessed to have her at St. Ursula Academy. Please keep Carly, her family, and the SUA community in your prayers as we celebrate the remarkable life of a very special Arrow.

Soli Deo Gloria,

Elizabeth Huebner

Principal

Red Ribbon Week

Red Ribbon Week 2024 is October 23-31 and is the largest drug-abuse prevention campaign in the United States. This year’s theme is “Life is a Movie, Film Drug Free.” On Monday, the Counseling Department shared resources about harmful substances and alternative coping skills during lunch and seminar.

Having conversations about these topics can be difficult, but can make a difference. Children of parents who talk to their teens regularly about drugs are 42 percent less likely to use drugs than those who don’t, yet, only a quarter of teens report having these conversations. As youth e-cigarette use continues to be a persistent issue, please partner with us to talk about its harmful effects at home with your teens. Below is a helpful guide from the FDA to open up the conversation about vaping

If you or your daughter need any additional resources and/or support, please reach out to the SUA Counseling Department.

New Mass Communication System

Since 2017, St. Ursula Academy has used Swift K12 to deliver critical information about events, school closings, safety alerts, and more. Swift K12 has been discontinued, and St. Ursula Academy is implementing a new mass communication system, SchoolMessenger.

With the introduction of SchoolMessenger, parents, students, faculty, and staff must opt-in to receive text messages. On Thursday, November 14, at 3:15 p.m., a text message will be sent asking you to opt-in to continue receiving important informational text messages from SUA. Instead of waiting until November 14, you may opt-in by texting “Y” or “Yes” to 67587.

If you do not receive the opt-in text message from SchoolMessenger, please confirm that your cell phone number is correct in FinalForms. Also, you will not receive the opt-in text message if you have already opted-in to SchoolMessenger with another school. If you opted-in to SchoolMessenger with another school, St. Ursula Academy will automatically be added to your SchoolMessenger account.

In addition to text messages, SchoolMessenger will send important information through email. There is no requirement to opt-in to receive email messages.

You may always opt-out of either text messages or emails by replying “STOP.”

If you have any questions about SchoolMessenger, please contact Mark Miller, Director of Technology, at mmiller@toledosua.org.
