Dear HealthAdvocateX Community,

Fall is my favorite time of year – the changing of the season outside, I love the start of the school year (even though our kids have long since ended their school days), the Jewish holidays is a long-time period of contemplation and manifestation about the year to come.

Here at HealthAdvocateX, we worked hard this summer to make important upgrades to our systems, especially our website. Check out the video below that highlights some of the enhancements or watch it here.

We look forward to seeing you with a busy line up of Fall events.

As always, we look forward to your feedback and ideas!

Here’s to your good health!

We are Recruiting for New Board Members to Join HealthAdvocateX! Deadline: Oct 20

We are looking for a few new Board Members to join our group to fulfill our mission of helping people transform from patient to active participant and partner in their own care, by providing credible, timely and actionable information and supporting professional health advocates. Since our founding in 2012, HealthAdvocateX has had low turn-over and high engagement from a working Board of about 12 members. We have been meeting monthly and Board Members do some work in addition to part-time paid staff.

In 2022, ten years after our founding, we began to start our succession planning as long-time board members serving on HealthAdvocateX (formerly the Washington State Health Advocacy Association) have been rotating off their planned terms. We have at least three open Board Positions that we will be recruiting for to start in January 2025.

Our hope is that through recruitment of additional Board Members, we will continue to advance our commitment to Inclusion, Diversity, Equity and Access values

Next Networking Event is October 24: The Unspoken Fears of Patient Advocates: Managing the Unknown"

HealthAdvocateX is hosting new national networking events specifically designed for professional health advocates to share and learn from each other.

When: Oct 24, 2024 | 4pm-5;30pm (PT)

Where: Online via Zoom (Register Here)

Cost: Free for Members, $25 for Non-Member Professionals

Join us for an engaging networking event, Unspoken Fears of Patient Advocates: Managing the Unknown, where we will explore the often unvoiced concerns of those working in advocacy. Patient and health care advocates face a range of uncertainties—from navigating complex healthcare systems to supporting patients in critical, high-stress situations. Together, we will address common fears, share practical solutions, and create a safe space for open dialogue. This is an opportunity to connect with fellow advocates, learn from shared experiences, and strengthen your skills for managing the unknown with confidence and resilience.

Learning Objectives:

  1. Identify and discuss common fears faced by patient advocates in their roles, including challenges related to communication, healthcare navigation, and emotional boundaries.
  2. Offer practical solutions and strategies for managing uncertainties and stress in patient advocacy work, with a focus on self-care and effective communication.
  3. Facilitate an open dialogue where participants can share their experiences and strategies, building a supportive community for continued learning and growth.

No CEs for this Activity. This event is live and will not be available on-demand after.

Inclusion, Diversity, Equity and Access (IDEA) Statement

OUR COMMITMENT

Approved by the Board September 21, 2022

Inclusion, Diversity, Equity and Access (IDEA) Statement

Our mission is to help people transform into active participants and partners in their own health care. To make this possible, we must advocate for inclusion, diversity, equity, and access (IDEA) for all individuals.

We recognize that:

  • Racism is a public health issue that impacts various intersections and communities differently.
  • Each person is unique and therefore experiences health care differently.
  • Every individual deserves health advocacy regardless of their race, ethnicity, language, nationality, gender, sexual orientation, gender identity and expression, spiritual practice, financial status, education, geography, disability, mental and physical status, age, weight, substance use disorder or other factors.
  • Our organization is uniquely positioned to raise awareness on IDEA in health and health care.

We are committed to:

  • Raising awareness about the importance of IDEA in health and health advocacy in all aspects of care.
  • Expanding diverse representation within our organization, expert presenters, and educational offerings.
  • Intentionally messaging our values, sharing IDEA expectations for ourselves, affiliated advocates, and partnering groups.
  • Creating space for respectful dialogue about representation, equitable access, and inclusive practices in health care and health advocacy.
  • Educating our community and participating in opportunities about IDEA events and exercises to keep these issues in the forefront of our work.
  • Implementing systems to ensure IDEA is pervasive in our organization.

We will reflect on our accomplishments with humility and grace. We will recognize our limitations and remain open to what we may not see or realize so that we can improve and or repair any harm.
